Pl 4) ¢ # o News From Port Perry_ Council Minutes of a Regular Meet- ing of Council of the Village of Port Perry held in the Munici- pal Office on Friday, Sept, 13, 1963 at 7.30 p.m. PROPOSED By-Law #1381 .to provide for the licensing, re- gulating and governing of own- ers and drivers of taxicdbs for the conveyance of passengers within the Corporation of the Village of Port Perry. Held over for revision. COMMENTS by Mr. Chas. Brignall, Jr. and Mrs. Mary Sweetman re proposed Taxi By- Law #1381. Mrs. Mary Sweetman appear- ed before Council and suggested further changes in the Taxi By- Law and Mr. Chas, Brignall, Jr. left a letter with certain recom- mendations concerning the Taxi By-Law. Council discussed these re- commendations and then in- structed the Clerk to revise the By-Law once again after ob- taining pertinent 'information with regard to insurance cover- age and the age of a driver. PRICES on posts for street signs. It was left with the Road Gommittee to order the neces- sary posts for street signs. PRICES obtained by Mr. C. MeNenley re dump truck. RESOLUTION -- That Port Perry Couneil purchase a dump truck with power take-off, steel dump box and hoist at a total cost of $6650.00. A Carried. The PURCHASE of a chain saw. Council felt that the pur- chase of a chain saw would be money well spent since trees could be cut during slack times. It was left with the Clerk to get prices on Chain Saw for the next Regular Meeting. : The Port Perry CHAMBER of COMMERCE aprpoached the Hydro Commission re putting up coloured lights across Queen St. and two "Welcome" signs. Mr. Cox explained that the local Hydro would be responsi- for the poles and the wire and that the rest of the instal- lation would cost the Chamber of Commerce approximately $1,1000.00. It was felt that Council should take over the maintenance of this project once it was installedi-- ---- RESOLUTION -- That the Port Perry Hydro Commission be asked to get an estimate on the cost of installing the Christ- mas lights as proposed by the Port Perry Chamber of Com- fr merce, - Carried. - It was left with the Clerk to request from the Chamber of Commerce give a more detailed account of their proposed Christmas lights. It. was also felt that an estimate should be obtained with regard to the Hydro bill in maintaining these lights. DEPUTATION from the Twp. 'of Reach was invited to attend the Council meeting to discuss the maintenance and construc- tion of boundary roads between 'the two Municipalities, Mr. Earl Martyn, Mr. Morley 'Bruce, Mr. Larry Doble and Mr. Theo Stevens on behalf of the Twp. of Reach stated that they - would like to switch' Maple St. for Victoria St. as it now exists, due to-there being little or ne| --§-- - building on the Twp. side of Maple St. and whereas they are -more interested in giving ser- "vice to the property owners on Victoria St. Council could see no objection to having a temporary agree-| = ment as proposed by the Reach deputation and so the following Resolution was passed: RESOLUTION--That a 5-yr. term agreement be drawn up in regard to the construction, maintenace, repair and' snow plowing of Maple and Victoria Sts. between the Village of Port Perry and the Twp. of Reach, having Reach responsible for Victoria St. as it now exists as regards length and Port Perry responsible for Maple St. { Carried. It was left with the Clerks of the two Municipalities to draw up a suitable agreement. Mr. SIDNEY DAVIS, Garb- age Collector and Dog Catcher, appeared before Council and re- quested to know the amount of his indebtedness for the Town men gathering the garbage on Thursday, Sept. 12th, when he was sick with the flu. Council decided that no charge would be made since this has been the first time that he has not been able to comply with his contract requirements. " Mr. Davis mentioned that his contract calls for the collecting of garbage on three days a 'week whereas it takes him four days to collect the garbage. He felt that he should receive an extra $50.00 per month. Council discussed this matter and wondered if it would ac- per truck was used. The Clerk was instructed to write to the two Bus Companies and also check with Mr. Ken proposed Jackson to get their views on the matter. "We recommend that the main on Silver St. from the water tank to Simcoe>St. North be at least 8" in diameter. The reason for this is that the main PORT PERRY STAR, THURS. SEPT, 26th, 1963--7 will no doubt serve as the ma- jor feeder main to the north and west parts of town in the future. Phe remainder of the proposal is satisfactory", The Clerk was instructed 'to send a copy of both letters from the O.W.R.C., first advising that a 6" main would be ne- cessary on Silver St. and then later advising that an 8" main would be more suitable. ACCOUNT from the Depart- ment of Highways dated 3/63 in the amount of $164.49. The Clerk was instructed to write the Dept. and ask for this account. LETTER from the Dept. of Highways dated Sept. 10/63 ap- proving the transfer of $740.00, By-Law #1375 from Silver to Arrow St. The necessary adjustment to be made in the By-Law. MEMO -- R, E. Sims would like to know the amount of sand and salt required. The Clerk was instructed to of Highways particulars as to advise Mr, R., E. Sims that Council would like 100 yds. of Sand and sufficient Salt for 200 yds. of Sand, the extra salt to be used for the purpose of replenishing the sand left over from last year. DEPUTY-REEVE R. A. Ken- ny reported that there will be 4 - joint E.M.O, meeting of Port Perry, Reach and Scugog on Wednesday, October 2nd, 1963 The Clerk was instructed to advise members 'of Council.
