This Assoc. was formed Oct. 13, 1963; and in the first year of operation sent 24 soft- ball teams onto the neighbour- hood: diamonds which includes Seagrave, Greenbank, Prince Al- bert, Blackstock as well as Port Perry. The Booster Night and Minor Softball Parade was per- haps the finest show of Soft- ball strength in the Province of Ontario. The members of this Execu- tive have done a tremendous job under the good leadership of President Carl Luke. The men who came forward to coach and manage these various clubs have devoted time and perhaps spent money to give these boys and girls the chance to take part in this fine sport. The local merchants who have always been so good to sport in Port Perry, the local Legion who have given solid support; the Port Perry Lions Club; Hope's I.G.A. and Mrs. Jack Hove and Scugog Cleaners well known in softball. SCUGOG NEWS On the evening of Oct. 9th, nearly 40 people met at "Grace" Church when the "Head" and "Grace" U.C.W. met in a joint project in Christian Education under the topic of "Mental Health". The opening Devotion was directed by the presidents and vice -presidents. The two groups separated for a business period. In the "Head" group Beryl Pearce conducted a Study on "Rainbow Comfort". She di- rected our thoughts thro' the trials and changes in life which end up like a rainbow when we turn to Jesus for comfort. It was drawn to -our attention that the morning Anniversary Service for Oct. 20 will be at the "Head". Marion Carter gave a-humor- ous reading from the Oct. is- sue of "Canadian Guider". It represented the meeting and --minutes of a "Society for the Propagation of Good-will". The recorded minutes were some- what revised. The groups again united for the highlight of the evening. Tdna Beckett gave one of her lovely piano instrumentals. Then Dr. Jackson, director of ' the Mental Health Assoc. for Ontario County, .presented an informative address and film. Dr. Jackson explained that the Canadian Association has its headquarters in Toronto and 37 branches in Ontario County. He reviewed its history which began at the turn of the century when a teacher visited the jails and found them crowded with maladjusted people. He advo- cated separate sanctuaries of gafety known as asylums.
