He also reported on iron bacteria in the well and that it was flushed with Javex earlier in the season which apparently remedied this "¢éondition. He explained how consider- able silt had been pumped from the well and that the ground water crew from the O.W.R.C. recommended that the well should be chlorinated at least once each year at an estimated cost of $160.00. Mr. Perry reviewed conditions situation in view of costs and service and recommended to Council the Pleuger Submersi- ble Pump which is being used at the present time although he pointed out that the Jackson Pump has a right angle drive in case of an emergency. He felt that since Well No. 1 is fitted with a right angle drive that it would not be necessary to have a right angle drive at Well No. 2. Moved by Bruce Beare, sec- onded by R. A. Kenny, that, on the recommendation of the O. W.R.C., to purchase the Pleuger Submersible Pump for Well No. 2 at a cost of $1,625.00, less rent to date of $150.00 a month, The Engineers from the O. W.R.C. reported that it would require an extra $425.00 from the Reserve Account in addi- tion to the $2,000.00 approved by Council, Sept. 27th, 1963. Moved by I. W. Parkinson, seconded by Bruce Beare, that O.W.R.C. be given permission to spend an additional $425.00 for 1964, this to be taken out of the Reserve Account. Former Scugog Minister Passes Rev. Frank Gordon Weir, a United Church minister on Scu- gog Island from 1926 to 1930 died in Toronto recently, - While. on Scugog Island he devoted much_of his time to work among the Indians on the Island. He also worked among Indians at Grand River and Saugeen before moving to a pastorate at St. Claire. During his period as a min- ister at Scugog Island he wrote | a book "Scugog and its Envir- ons" which was printed at the Port Perry Star. He was a respected and 'well liked man on the Island, but un- | fortunately information in re- gard to Rev. Weir is very scarce. He leaves his wife, Rosetta Weir, two sisters, Mrs, Wilfred Mills of Toronto and Mrs. Jas. 'McNeil of Vancouver and a brother Roland, of Toronto, Fun And Frolic At Local Legion Saturday evening °g Janu- ary 4th drew another capacity 'crowd to the Social Evening for 'members and guests at Branch 419, Legion Hall. High-light of the evening was the 12th consecutive 50 - 50 Draw, winner of which was Mr. Wm. Richardson, R.R, 2, Port Perry. Mr, Richardson, an R.C.AF. veteran was pleased and surprised to find that the ticket sold to him by Mrs, Vera Knott resulted in a cheque for 3276, 60. * % % New Year's Eve was also a successful occasion, when 80 couples danced to the music supplied by Cam Warne and his band. Lunch was supplied un- der the capable direction of Mr. Ken Jackson and his staff and everyone present agreed it was a "wonderful affair". a...
