Tay- lor. --X-- Sixteen members of the Head U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Carl Graham on Wed. evening The president, Mrs. Jas. Wil- son called the meeting to order with the reading of an opening thought, The usual worship period followed. Mrs. Allan Carter had chosen to take their study from "The Word and the Way" under the leadership of studied was "The Love of God". All groups took part in a ques- tionnaire involving the 3 types of "Love" namely: Eros, Philia and Agape. We concluded that the Agape love of God is one of compassion and reaches down to us. When we as Christians learn to have this love there is a vast change as demonstrat- ed in the reading given by Mrs. Allan Carter. We learned sev- eral legends in connec} with St. Valentine and how! his day fit in with the different kinds of love. The roll call was word association with "Valentine". Mrs. Alvin Heayn had a sil- ver arrow contest in which Mrs. Jack Manns was the most ac- curate in applying it, while blindfolded, to a red heart. Mrs. Allan Carter, Mrs, Jas. Wilson and Mrs. Alvin Heayn had 3 good readings including wit & words of wisdom and encour- agement for life's trials. In turn the members stated the 'contents of the surprise travelling box as they had re- ceived it. About 16 ladies paid their membership fees of 50¢. Mrs. Joe Dowson offered her home for the March meeting. Mrs. Allan Carter's group served a lunch of cakes with ice cream garnished with fruit sal- ad or strawberries. There was a special birthday cake in hon- our of Mrs. Joe Dowson. Tho' Anson Gerrow has been confined to the house for sev- eral weeks, he is doing quite well and there have been many bright spots as it afforded rest and an opportunity to visit with a large number of friends who have called. The Healey girls had their cousin, from Port Perry visit- ing with them on Sunday. After many years of habit, we hear that many of our re- sidents are giving up the cig- arette and already notice a dif- ference in their physical con- dition. Mrs, Jas. Wilson with 3 children visited at her home in Blackstock on Sunday. Our high school students en- joyed a day off on Wednesday while their teachers attended convention. Mrs. Thos. Redman went to a family gathering on Saturday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bailey in Black- stock. Mrs. Clifford Redman with b other ladies had a painting bee on Monday at the new Lodge Hall. The Euchre results were as follows: Prizes for the ladies were won by Mrs. Gimlett, Mrs. C. Watson, and Mrs. C. Geer. The lucky gentlemen were: Mr. Ed. Mor- rison, Mr. D. Prentice, and Mr. R. Cook. There will be an- other party Friday, Feb. 21. There was a party at Utica Hall on Friday evening. The Chivaree gang and the Junior Farmers joined to honour the newly weds, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Johnston and Mr. and Mrs. W. Kendry and presented each couple with a suitable gift. Sympathy of the Community is extended to Mr. Wm. Asling in the loss of his sister, Mrs. Mary Sager of Prince Albert. Mrs. Edwards and boys are staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Crozier of Tor- onto this week. We. are all so pleased to know that the baby is 'improving and is off the critical list. We hope to wel- come them home this coming week-end. . Ross Evans will be sporting a walking cast for the next six weeks due to nasty fall which badly tore the ligaments of the ankle. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sharpe of Toronto visited Mr. and Mrs. G. Prentice last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rogers of Brooklin visited on Monday with Mr. and Mrs. A.Taylor. Mrs. Will: Evans is still a patient in Uxbridge Cottage Hospital but is making satis- factory recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Searle of Columbus were supper guests at the home of Mr. and day.
