WA rr ae yp ~ TR CBN tt Mason mi on 14--PORT PERRY STAR, THURS., FEB. 13th, 1964 Leaders Form Group Council Within Scout And Cub Movements Another first for the Scout Movement in Port Perry was the formation recently of the Group Council comprising all Cub and Scout Leaders and As- sistants and a representative from the Group Committee. Co- chairmen are Cubmaster Gord- on Goode and Group Committee man Gerald Nelson. The main function of the Council are (1) to ensure co-operation between Sections in planning functions and activities (2) to plan for continuity and co-or- dination in the training pro- gramme of the Group. . One of the main accomplish- . . oo i ments of the Council in recent | weeks has been the location of two qualified Scouters in per- son of Bob Bell and Albert Ful- ford, both Queen Scouts, from our local movement. They will be taking new boys from the three Cub Packs within the Group | next few weeks and re-organiz- ing No. 1 Scout Troop. With the formation of this Troop there will be 2 Scout Troops, 3 Cub Packs and a Rover Crew in our movement. The Father and Son Banquets are proceeding on schedule with A and B Packs having had suc- cessful dinners. Family night at the Arena, an already established success- ful evening of "fun and enter- tainment" will be held again later in the season. A Church Service will be sponsored on a suitable date in May. More information will be forthcoming on these events. Next Paper drive will be on Saturday, Feb. 16th. The ton- age is increasing so will you not join the many homes o Fort Perry and surrounding area who are saving paper and magazines for the Scouts. 'Manchester News Mrs. Theo. Stevens entertain- | ed the U.C.W. last Thursday af- | ternoon. The meeting opened with hymn "Holy Bible, Book | Divine" followed by Prayer, Mrs. Stevens read the Scripture and Mrs, Crosier gave the les- son story, "Your Treasure, the Bible", Pres. Mrs. Holtby chaired the business meeting. Twenty members answered the roll with the month and year of their wedding and number of sick calls made. Members are asked to bring discarded eye glasses and used Canadian Post- age Stamps to the next meet- ing. These will be sent to the leper colony. Correspondence was read and discussed and various reports given. Birthday monies were handed in, also Canadian Pack- ers Labels, | i . . At the close of the meeting Mrs. Fred Lamb showed slides of her recent trip to Florida. Mrs. Stevens and Mrs, Crosier served cake and ice cream. Mr. Stoney Creek were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Franklin on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. W. S. Taylor and daugh- ter visited her mother here on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Kerr Wyatt, Goodwood, Mr .and Mrs. Wm. Greenbank UCW Afternoon Unit #1 The February meeting of Unit #1 of Greenbank U.C.W. was held in the Church Parlor on Wed.,, Feb. 5th at 2 p.m. Quiet music played by Mrs. preceded the opening. Mrs. H. Guy presided, opening the meeting with hymn 157. Mrs. Robert Leask assisted by 'Mrs. Pearson dealt with the Theme "Training for Witness", followed by - prayer by Mrs, Pearson. All repeated the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Baird re- ceived the offering. Hymn 377 closed the Devotional. Mrs. Guy reviewed the Chapter, "The Mission Becomes a Church" from the Study Book on India. The President Mrs. H. Phoe- nix presided, welcoming the la- dies present and thanking the Group in charge. Minutes of the January meeting were ap- proved as read by Mrs. Spen- Mrs. Couves reported It was noted the exact amount of the 1964 allocation had not been re- ceived. Articles for the bale were discussed and it was de- cided to find out the intentions of Unit #2 about the layette. The same collectors are to serve again this year. Mrs. Guy re- ported for Christian Steward- ship and Mrs. F. Beare on Ci- tizenship.. Members were asked to acquaint the Older and Shut- in members with the work of the U.C.W. Cards were signed to send to two who are ill. Mrs. Harris stated the Thank Offer- ing Service is quite likely to be April 18 with Miss Werner as Missionary from Trinidad as Speaker. Ladies were reminded to pay their 1964 Fees. Group cards were handed out and it was hoped all were arranged to ad- vantage. A Presbyterial Din- ner is to be served here to about 45 Clergymen, some time in the Fall. Mrs. Harper is Key Lady in the World's Day of Prayer Service at 3 p.m, on Feb. 14th, All were urged to be present. Mrs. Harris talked about an M. & M. Festival to be fully explained at the next meeting. Mrs. Roy Leask ex- plained that there would be no Holstein Banquét in 1964 on which to rely for funds. Re- pair and Tuning of S.S, piano was debated. Envelopes for Collection were distributed. Meeting closed with Hymn 342. Lunch was served to 32 ladies and some visitors.
