FEB. 20th, 1964 1000 Children And Parents Enjoy Ice Carnival Through the co-operation of the principal, Roy Cornish and] his Staff, the Port Perry Pub-! lic School once again held a successful ice carnival at the Memorial Recreation Centre, on Wednesday, February 12th. Approximately 425 parents and friends attended this annual event at the arena and with 473 | pupils taking part in the vari- ous activities, made this ents an outstanding attendance re. | cord. The competitors ranged in age from the five year-olds to the teenagers, decked out in costumes of all hues and varie- ties imaginable. The students of regalia and several outfits were unique and original. The judges were Mrs. George Samells; Mrs, Lloyd Hunter; | Mrs. Bruce Beare and Glenn Taylor. The prize money! amounted to $82.50. The prize awards were in charge of Mrs. Frank Hastings: : Mrs. Bruce Bailey; Mrs. Elmer | Lee and Mrs. Nelson" Cochrane. Tte events were ably record- ed by Miss Donna Johnson and awards this year were given to the five highest in each section. The races were supervised by Stuart Lane, Sam. Cawker and Bob Robertson with prizes go- | ing to the four highest in each: event, The announcing was in the | capable hands of Mr. Cornish, | who wholeheartedly joined in the fun. Several of the teach-' ers mingled with the students on the ice dressed in attractive array. ! There was a splendid repre- sentation of parents and friends ond hand to enjoy the afternoon entertainment, which was, in- deed, gratifying to those who worked so hard behind the scenes for the children's pleas- ure. Space does not permit de- tailed reports of individuals, each one was svperb--the fancy costumes were beautiful, the comic numbers excellent and the originals were not only artistic but some "out of this world", After the judging of costumes was completed, races were held for all ages.
