W. was held at the home of Mrs. R, Foster on Wednesday evening, February 5th. The group in charge 'ably pre- sented the devotional and in- . cluded was the singing of some of the older well known gospel songs. At the close of the Devotional the president, Mrs. D. Real wel- comed all present and thanked the group in~charge, Mrs. R. Kerry, Mrs. R. Foster, Mrs. F. Phoenix and Mrs. M. Lee. The secretary's and treasur- er"s reports were given and approved. It was decided that a catering committee be chosen to serve for a full term of one year. Mrs. R. Foster, Mrs. R. Rahm, Mrs. J. Cook and Mrs. F. Wag- ner were nominated to serve on this committee. The social committee reported that a skating party would be held later in the month. Next month's meeting will also include a talent night. Articles are to be made and displayed for sale by members of the group. . Ladies of the afternoon group will be invited to attend this meeting, which will be held at the home of Mrs, George Beare, on Wednesday evening, March 4th. Letters were read by Mrs. W. - Stone, from our.adopted girl in France. Also a report from the Canadian Save The Child- ren Fund. It was agreed to continue sponsorship of this child for another year. A very interesting report was given by Mrs. J. Cook on the 22nd annual meeting of the U.C.W. a It was moved that the nursery table in the S. S. room be sold. It was suggested by the Mis- sion Committee that some thought be given to the pre- sentation of a Mission Festival to be held in the fall. All groups of the church would be asked to take part. Farra- gher presenting the panel "You were asking?" at the winter regional meeting of Ontario County South CWL in Rosebank Sunday, Feb. 9. A clear picture of the function of the CWL em- erged, and the panel was thank- ed by Mrs. Ed. Finan. Mrs, Greg. Carter, Chairman conducted the business meeting attended by members from Ux- bridge, Port Perry, Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Rosebank. Mrs. Carter congra- tulated St. Gertrude's council, Oshawa, whose membership has ! doubled. Father C. Vanltem extended a warm welcome Mary's CWL. Mrs. K. Ireland, regional so- cial action convener, reported attending 6 successful adoption programs, and completing ar- rangements for the final pro- grams in the region. Mrs, Car- ter commended Mrs. Ireland and Mrs. J. J. Matthews for their invaluable help. Father N. Gignac, regional spiritual director, in his words on the lay apostolate said "Everyone should be an apostle. You do not belong to the church. You are the church!" Father G. Breen, diocesan spiritual director, speaking on the Ecumenical Council said, "Some things may be difficult to accept. They are trying to help us and we should pray for an increase in the virtue of obedience, and be ready to ac- cept with faith and love, what- ever the Church asks of us." Mrs. D. Donovan, docesan president, congratulated the. re- gion for the wonderful gesture of presenting tickets to the showing of "The Cardinal" to all pastors in the region, whom she felt are so often "taken for granted". Father Gignac also had a word of thanks on behalf of all the priests who attended and enjoyed that evening. Mrs. J. G. Farragher, diocesan spiritual convener asked every- one to prepare for Easter by re-introducing the practice of traditional lenten customs in the home. Members of St. Mary's CWL were lunch hostesses, and win- ners in the draw were Mrs, J. Maika, Mrs. V. Shannon, Mrs. D. Donovan, and an 82 year old CWL member Mrs. M. Alder- dice who won the attendance from St. prize. The annual regional meeting | will take place at St. Gregory's CWL in Oshawa on April 23 and will include a pot luck supper. Fishing Season Opens Saturday TORONTO -- Ontario's 1964 game-fishing season. opens in earnest next Saturday -- the earliest ever.
