T, Fallaise, president of the hostess organization gave words of welcome to the 819 women, representing 44 of the 58 churches in the presbyterial, Mrs. Richardson expressed her gratitude to the members of the retiring executive for taking up the challenge pre- sqnted at the inaugural meet- two years ago, to guide the new organization in unchartered waters toward the involvement of every woman of the church, in the total mission of the church, She paid tribute to those who had planned the Unit- ed Church Women and also to the members who had done the work of the past two years to assist in bringing that plan to fruition. Beverly Oaten began a retreat at a place near Paris Ontario for Chirstian people to go to, for quiet study and meditation. Into 'this dream of a lifetime, Mr. Oaten put all his life sav- ings. When the retreat was on a workable basis, the United Church took it over and called it Five Oaks, for the five cent- ral conferences. Over the years, hundreds of people have attend- ed sessions at Five Oaks for spiritual guidance, Bible study The good done and uplifting. at this retreat has been im- measurable. This year Rev, B. The UCW Presbyterial treasurer is Mrs. G. C. Pirie, 171 Rossland Rd. W. Oshawa. Individuals wishing to make se- parate donations may send them to Mrs, W. C. Ives, 91 Liberty St. Bowmanville, who is the treasurer appointed by the Christian education committee of the Bay of Quinte Confer- ence. Mrs. J. H. Breckenridge, chairman of the finance com- mittee, presented her report and asked that the following per- sons be appointed as auditors{- for the next two years: Mr. Chester Robinson and Mr. H. Pincombe. The motion passed. It was announced that the School for Leaders would be held at Albert College, Belle- ville, July 21 to 24, The Rev. John Smith and members of his session led in -an inspiring communion service. After the noon meal, provided by members of the St. Mark's UCW, the afternoon session was opened by a worship service led by members of Ebeneezer UCW., Mrs. W. A. Weatherhead, president of the Bay of Quinte Conference brought greetings to the Presbyterial. The guest speakers for the day were the Rev. Duncan white in the morning, Mrs. Ryrie Smith in the afternoon and Dr. Claude Vipond in the evening, The accounts of these are under separate heads. Evening devotions were led by members of the Trinity United Church Women, Bow- manville. The Rev. E. S. Linstead, chairman of the Oshawa Pres- bytery presided over the elec- tion of officers, after the busi- nes of the day was concluded. - In her acceptance speech, Miss Millicent Luke, newly elected president, thanked those who had worked so diligently in the past two years and asked for the continued support of the membership during her tenure of office.
