Over 400 Attend Banquet In Ajax Over 400 members and guests attended the banquet held in honour of the elected Conser- vative members of the Ontario Ridings Centre, Saturday night. Guests of honour were Hon. Matthew B. Dymond, M.P.P. Ontario Riding, Albert V. Wal- ker, M.P.P. Oshawa Riding and Michael = Starr, M.P. Ontario 'ening was George Hogan, a gressive - Conservative executive. In his speech, the guest speak- er, Senator Allister Grosart praised the Ontario County for being the most politically en- lightened county in Ontario. . Senator Grosart called for a 'new sense of pride within the Progressive Conservative party. If this could be achieved he was sure the party would once again be able to form a government. A great tribute should be paid, he said, to Ontario coun- ty's members at both federal and provincial levels and to party workers who helped a- chieve a full slate of Conser- vative representation: in the area, Brief addresses were also given by Hon. Michael Starr and Hon.- Matthew B. Dymond. 'Dr. Dymond in his address, stated, that in his eight years as member of the Ontario Le- gislature opposition had never | been weaker at Queen's Park. Party [+ in Ajax Community: Riding. Chairman for the ev-|' member of the Provincial Pro- |" Contributed To After over seven months of devoted, hard work members of the Port Perry Baptist Church were rewarded on Sunday when their beautiful new edifice was officially opened and dedicated. It must have been gratifying to congregation members to see their church completed; much of its construction was made pos- sible by members' faith and wil- lingness to put in countless hours of voluntary labour in its building. The church, as it now stands, has been completed at a cost of $24,000 but the free la- bour and materials purchased at favorable prices makes it comparable to a $35,000 build- ing, if erected at contract rates. The exterior of the church is of brick construction and the interior is finished in knotty wood with white ceiling and with heavy beams varnished a warm brown. The sanctuary has grey tiled floor while the vestibule has concrete. Both pews and pulpit are of natural wood which gives a light, airy atmosphere. In the basement, underneath the church portion of the build- ing is an Assembly Hall, al- most the full length of the building. Also in the basement is an apartment for the pastor and his family. This arrange- ment is practical as well as more economical than the up- keep of a separate parsonage. The first service on Sunday morning was held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. M. H. Butler of London as guest speaker, The official opening and dedication took place at 3.00 p.m. with Mr. Butler again as guest minister. Rev. J. H. Brown, resident minister, paid tribute to the many volunteers who had helped in the construction" of the church and singled out a few | ® Many Hours Of Volunteer Work Construction who had been especially devoted in their help by spending their entire vacation period working at the site. (Continued on page 14) Local Motorists Made Deadline According to police chief Mr. Cameron, owners of cars in Port Perry and area must be abiding by the law.
