Mr. Brignall felt that they! may be behind in their charges and that they could raise the rate in town from $6.00 to $10. but he felt that he was getting all he could for out-of-town calls. Mr. Brignall stated that in the past he had been operating the ambulance in connection with his taxi service and on January 1st of this year he started it"as a separate business entirely detached from his taxi service. He said his ambulance would not be used for anything else and would be ready for duty at all times. Reeve Martyn asked, "if someone else started a similar operation, would you still oper- ate?" Answer. Definitely yes. Question: "At a loss?" Anm- swer: "Yes", Reeve Martyn felt that his first step was to raise his rates. Mr, Brignall said that he would be willing to raise his rates to a sensible levy, but he would still need help to operate. Councillor Ferguson felt that if a subsidy was provided, the number of unpaid calls would increase. Deputy - Reevd® Crosier felt that: since he had only started this separate service 'in Janu- ary of this year, he had not given it a fair chance and that he should continue for a year to determine as to whether a subsidy was needed. After discussing this subsidy for some time it was decided to inform Mr. Brignall that he should raise his rates to see how he makes out, and then the matter would be looked into at a later date.
