Room, with Mr. Lawrence Nicholls as Master of Ceremon- ies, After a few opening re- marks he called on Sylvia Wan- amaker for a piano solo. This was followed by Gordon Short with vocal solo. Mr. Owen Sweetman, who at- tended the International T.B. Conference at Rome, last fall was present to show some beau- tiful colored slides he had tak- en on the trip. We went with Owen on a 150 passenger chartered T.C.A. Jet from Malton and caught a glimpse of Scugog Island, as . the plane passed high in the air. At times we looked down through the fluffy white clouds and saw what looked like little specks of white batting, but was. really white caps on the waters, 7000 ft, below. We saw some of the historic buildings of Rome, as well as beautiful Cathedrals, and the modern building where the Conference was held. The Sweetman party visited a son and daughter, who with their families, are with the R.C.A.F. occupation forces in Germany, so we saw something of scenery of that country. Lawrence made a break here and Catherine Nicholls played a piano solo. Mr. Glenn Wana- maker gave two short readings; Bonnie Short a vocal solo; Shir- ley Short a piana solo: Joanne Jackson of Port Perry was in the audience, and favoured with a very lovely piano solo. Mr. Sweetman then took us from Germany to England, where they visited relatives and showed pictures of their farm and flowers which were very lovely. These pictures were all inter- idea of places a great many of us will never have the oppor- tunity to see. They were much appreciated. Lawrence thanked Mr. man and called on Mr. Boe to auction the boxes. This was a very successful evening, socially and financially. The U.C.W. convened in the S.S.
