L/ By 0. Hill The Dorcas unit members were guests of the Candace unit at the home of Mrs. Ivan Thompson Tuesday, March 17th and 17 members attended. The ladies met at 1 p.m. and en- joyed a delicious dessert of An- gel cake and coffee. Mrs. Romeril opened the meeting with a reading entitled "Christian Stewardship of Life" Mrs. Harold Kyte conducted the Worship period from the theme '"Everybody's Cross". Mrs. Romeril introduced the film strip of Paul's second mis- sionary journey. Following the film, questions were given out and after a few minutes to think of them the answers were discussed. Another hymn was sung and the business dealt with, Mrs. Walter Wright express. ed the thanks of the Dorcas unit for the pleasant afternoon. Closed with prayer. Eleven: members and one vi- sitor attended the meeting of the Esther unit at the home of Mrs. Harvey Graham Wednes- day evening, March 18th. Mrs. Bruce Mountjoy opened the meeting by reading "The BLACKSTOCK NEWS Legend of the Easter Flower". Mrs. Bob Bryans conducted the Worship period, which included, prayer, hymn, scripture passage offeratory, meditation and pray- er. Roll call was answered by number of calls made, Unit were assigned their du- ties for the Shorthorn Banquet, April 8th. It was decided to have a sale of plants and bak- ing after General Meeting Mar. 31st. A letter of thanks for Christmas cards, with an inter- esting letter of their work in Korea was read. Mrs. Harvey Graham led in practice for the General meet- ing. Mrs. Richard Van Camp showed some more slides sent home by Miss Doreen VanCamp, Indore. Closed with prayer af- ter which a delicious lunch and social time was enjoyed. The U.C.W. of the United Church entertained the choir. Sunday School Teachers, Lead- 'ers of Hi C, Explorers and Mes- sengers to dinner in the IChrist- ian Education Centre Thursday evening. Mountjoy gave the Easter message. Hymn 87 was sung followed by roll call, minutes and offer- ing. All signed a card for Eleanor Werry who is ill. Plans were made for the Choir and Sunday School Teachers Dinner also the Shorthorn Banquet. Alma Duff, Edith McLaughlin and Jean McLaughlin served ice cream, cookies and coffee. Fifteen children attended the meeting of the Messengers Tuesday after school. The cus- tomary opening exercies were held. The worship was a story of a little Indian boy at Board- ing School, told by Mrs. Fer- guson. Roll call was answered by "My Pet". Indian games were played. Elizabeth Thomp- son gave the chapter of the Study Book. A St. Patrick's game was played. There were 12 members at- tended the Explorer meeting on Tuesday. The Indian Flag was discussed and instructions given for materials to be brought next week so an Indian Flag may be assembled. After the opening ceremony, Secretary and Treasurer reports given. Mrs. Romeril continued with "The Golden Coin". Wor- ship period and closing cere- mony was held. The W.A. of St. John's church met in the Parish Hall Thurs- day evening. The Dorcas Secretary report- ed all goods received for the bale and it will be shipped this week. Two new quilts and two quilt tops were donated. Mrs. Ashmore reported So- loist secured and plans well un- derway for the Dessert Lunch- eon, April 16th. The ladies are to meet April 9th and house- clean the Parish Hall, There was a Bake and Take table after the meeting which closed with Benediction. Eight members attended. Next meet- ing in the Parish Hall April 23. There was a good attendance at the High School Dance in the Recreation Centre Friday night. Grade 9 were responsible for the arrangements and the dec- orating which was partly St. Patrick's and partly Easter. Music was records supplied by David Godley of Port Perry. Bob Kyte and Judy Swain won one spot dance; Dennis Me- Laughlin and Janice Byers an elimination dance and Bryan Staniland and Glenna McLeod another spot dance. Following the dance the stu- dents serenaded their Principal and wife (Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Paisley) who had just moved ! into their new home last week. The O.N.O. Club are very dis- appointed to report there will be no cooking school on April 17th, as the Moffat company have discontinued same. Prize winners at the L.0.B.A. euchre Wednesday night: High lady Mrs. G. Bassant; low lady Mrs. A. Leighton; as high gent Mrs. Hector Shortridge; low gent Harry Sanderson, after a draw with Oscar McQuade. Door prize Mrs. Redman. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ferguson visited her mother and brother in Norwich on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Ferguson and family .visited Mr. Roy Ferguson Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Dorrell and family viewed the new air- port at Toronto Sunday after- noon. Msds. H. Ashmore, J. A. Mec- Arthur, W. W. VanCamp, Velva Bailey and J. Hamilton attended 'the Dessert Luncheon in Prince Albert Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. W. J. Pearce entertained a few ladies Wednesday after- noon in honor of her mother, Mrs. Geo. Crawford's 80th birth- day and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crawford and Miss Mary Lou; Mrs. Oscar Edwards, Port Perry; Mrs. Harold Crawford, Janice and Kenneth were sup- per guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pearce and Mrs. Crawford. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Blomme, Toronto, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hamil- ton and children. Sympathy is extended Mrs. Wm, Taylor on the death of Mr. Taylor this morning (Mon- day, March 23rd). Mr. and Mrs. H. McLaugh- lin, Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe & boys attended the Baccabau- reate service in War Memorial Hall, Guelph Sunday afternoon, for the 1964 graduates of which Lawrence McLaughlin is one of the class. The service was con- ducted by Rev. D. G. Kemble, B.A. of St. Andrews Presby- terian church, Carunna, Ont. Enroute to Guelph the Me- Laughlins and Wolfes called on a former Rector of St. John's Church, Blackstock, Rev. J. H. Kidd in Woodbridge, who had celebrated his 93rd birthday on Saturday and is really bright and smart. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Samells and family, Bowmanville, visit- ed Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Samells, Sunday. Several of the cousins from this area either visited at the home Sunday or attended the funeral Monday of Miss Esther ° Elford, Islay (North of Cam- bray). Miss Elford was 94. Mr. Elmer Archer, Marilyn and Jim, Whitby, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Archer and Mr. Dever. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Marlow ' returned home from Texas and Florida, Sunday.
