Gil- bert was the speaker, service. A well planned Spring Var- iety program was held in the "Grace" Church on the evening of Wednesday, Mar. 25. There were representatives from sev- eral adjoining communities, The ladies from the "Head" U.C.W. assisted with several numbers. The spring setting -at the base of the cross, arranged by Mrs. M. McLaren, depicted a lovely garden with the cross emphasized by a flood-light. In the foreground was the open Bible and the three lighted candles representing the word and the Way. Mrs. C. Doug. Aldred was in charge of ceremonies and called upon Mrs. K. Crozier to assist in the opening Devotional en- titled "Light and Darkness". The program began with a reading on "Daffodils" followed by a lovely duet 'Bless This House" sung by Mrs. C. Aldred and Mrs. R. Fralick. Mrs. L. Martyn gave an inspirational reading challenging us to make efforts in many fields "Just for To-day". . Mrs. J. Beckett entertained with an outstanding piano se- lection, Marjorie Aldred dis- played her hidden talents by using the names of their mem- bers hidden in a story of some of their experiences. During 'intermission there were several draws for lucky numbers and gifts. The program was resumed when Miss Kay Jackson vocal- ized "Beautiful Isle of Some- | where". Mrs. E. Reader, in a reading, described the confused Meeting at |'try. pleasures of living in the coun- An outstanding number was by 4 little children dressed as Easter bunnies, singing Lip- pity Lop and Peter Cottontail and then distributing colourful Easter eggs to the audience. Mrs. 'C. Aldred explained in comic form the method of "Feeding a Cold". Mrs. Whit- ter gave several piano numbers to work out the idea of 'Spring'. Mrs. J. Wilson gave a comic reading to describe the results in a home when husband takes over the wifely duties. You may be sure it ended in catas- trophe. 5, At this point in the program | about six men proved how they could take over in a fashion show. Mrs. G. Freeman acted as' commentator, This proved to be a very hilarious demon- stration as the men did excep- tionally well in modelling differ- ent types of ladies' fashions. An appropriate introduction for the closing number was: in the hymn of "Near the Cross". Then in candle light; the "Head" ladies acted: out the Lord's Prayer and each in turn helped to form a cross. When com- plete a quartet sang The Lord's Prayer. When finished, the whole group moved silently down the aisle carrying the various coloured candles. A social half hour was spent in the basement with a lovely lunch. \ ~ Mr. and Mrs, C. Woodcock of Stouffville spent Good Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Dowson.
