2 -- PORT PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, APRIL 30th, 1964 The regular meeting of St, John's W.A. was held in the Parish Hall, April 23rd with Mrs. H. Ashmore, President, presiding. "King of Love my Shepherd is" was sung. The theme of the Devotional was "the walk to Emmaus" with reading from Luke 24, taken by Mrs. McArthur who also read the opening prayers. Mrs. F. Staniland, Treas. gave a report of the luncheon and speaker which was enjoyed by all. Sec'y Mrs. T. Graham, read a letter from the Diocesan Correspond- ing Sec'y informing the society of the Annual meeting, May b- 6th in Toronto. Several mem- bers hope to attend. Also a let- ter from Mrs. Barnett, Prayer Sec'y, giving Mrs. Annie Kwok, Hong Kong as the name of the new Prayer partner. Dorcas Sec'y Mrs, J. Hamilton reported the articles for the Indian School had been sent and three quilts had been sold and Mrs. Sanders had sent articles for the bazaar. Mrs. S. Smith re- ported four cards had been sent and one had been received. Mrs. W. Van Camp and Mrs. Scott are in hospital. Mrs. Darcey is home from nursing home. The W.A. has been asked to cater to the Curling Club Ban- quet May 2nd and plans were made for the Mother's Day Supper. Meeting closed with prayer, followed by refreshments. Nine members of the Dorcas Unit met at the home of Mrs. Cecil Hill on Tuesday, April 14. President Mrs. W., Wright opened the meeting with a scripture verse. Following the singing of a hymn she offered prayer, read a passage of scrip- ture and gave the Meditation on "Let's Think it Over". Of- fering was received and dedi- cated. Mrs. Lloyd Wright led the "discussion on the chapter of the Study Book "The Incarnate BLACKSTOCK NEWS God". A letter of appreciation and some highlights of their work from Mrs. W. Tonge, Hong Kong-was read, also a letter from Miss Doreen Van Camp, Indore, Lois Wright played a piano solo and Eleanor and Leslie Wright played a piano duet. Business was dealt with and meeting closed with another Fymn and Benediction, after which lunch was served. Sixteen members and one Leader attended Messengers on Tuesday. After the opening ex- ercises Mrs. Ferguson told a story of how an Indian Family raised a donation for their church. Roll call was "What would you do if you had no money". The song "Let us visit India" was sung and more of tre study book "The Buffalo and the Bell" was dealt with, then the children made water Buffalo. Closed with Benedic- tion. The Esther unit met at the home of 'Mrs. Glenn Larmer on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Bruce Mountjoy presiding, op- ened the meeting with a poem "The Bridge Builder". Mrs. N. Malcolm was in charge of the Devotional and programme. Hymn 338 was sung and prayer offered. Mrs. Harvey Graham read the scripture passage. Of- fering was received and Dedi- cated by Mrs. Malcolm. Mrs. P. Romeril visited ihe meeting and showed a tape on "The Overwhelming Minority" and led the discussion on it. The theme of the meeting being | Missions. Roll was answered by 10 members telling number of calls made. There were also two visitors. Following the busin- ess period, meeting closed with Benediction. Lunch was served. Fifteen members attended the Messengers Tuesday. Roll call for the next meeting to be answered with a picture of a Retarded child or children, After the closing ceremony, chief Ex- plorer John Larmer declared the Expedition ended. 13 members attended. Nancy Dorrell assist- ed Mrs. Romeril in leading. The Community Hall was packed on Friday night and all present spoke very highly of the evening's entertainment. Mrs. McArthur acted as M.C. and after O Canada had been sung she introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Anson Taylor of Scarboro, who gave a very, very interesting account of his trip to Russia last November, illus- trated with lovely coloured pic- tures. During an intermission the ladies who took the millin- ery course in February model- led their hats. Miss Catherine Bailey rendered a piano solo as well as played for the ladies modelling. Mr. Taylor contin- ued with his lecture and slides. On behalf of the Women's In- stitute Mrs. McArthur thanked Anson and Rev. P. Romeril ex- pressed the appreciation of the audience for sharing this won- derful trip with all. Evening closed with "The Queen'. The Scout and Cub Father & Son Banquet was held in the Recreation Centre, April 26th, 1964. Canon Ashmore said Grace and all enjoyed a deli- cious turkey dinner served by the Mothers' Auxiliary. Ross Duff proposed the toast to the Queen and introduced the head table guests. The Queen" was sung. The toast to the Fathers was proposed by Vernon Mal- colm and replied to by Merlin Suggitt. The toast to the boys wag proposed by Lawrence Mal- colm and Blair Martyn gave the reply. The report on the Cub work was given by Mrs. Carl Adams and the report of Scout year was given by Blake Gun- ter. The prize for the Best Cam- per of 1963, Doug Metcalf, was presented by 1962 Best Camp- er Dennis McLaughlin. ~The prize winning Patrol at 1963 Camp was Ray Mountjoy, Ron Martyn, Bob Kyte, Brian| Dunsmoor, Jim Carnaghan and Bill Thompson. Guest speaker was Mr. Ted Maidman, Oshawa, who spoke on "What Scouting means to me." Rev. Romeril thanked the speaker and Victor Malcolm thanked the ladies who served. "0 Canada" was sung. ' The Candace Unit met at the home of Mrs. Ernest Larmer on Tuesday, April 21st at 1 p.m. and enjoyed dessert. Mrs. Ro- meril opened the meeting with prayer, * followed by 'worship period. Hymn 153 was sung. Mrs. Ivan Thompson led the Bible Study of Acts 19, which was followed by questions and answers and discusion. Busi. ness period was held. Meeting closed with Benediction. Ten members and one child attended. The Anna Unit met. at the home of Mrs. Murray Byers on Tuesday with 13 members, 4 children and 1 visitor in atten. dance., Meeting opened with Lord's prayer' in unison.
