Hear Dr. Morley Honey Speak On Conditions In India June 9th was Family Night at the Port Perry United Church when the annual pot luck sup- per was enjoyed. After the tables had been cleared Mrs. W. M. Dowson, President, expressed apprecia- tion of the splendid attendance. Miss Gladys Joblin, Mrs. Grant McDermott and Mrs, Robert Walker conducted a de- votional period. It was moved, seconded and carried that calendars be order- ed for sale as in previous years; That refreshments be served af- ter the church service on June 28th in honour of the Linstead family and that the Treasurer be given permission to pay the| bills and any necessary accounts during the summer months of July and August. The guest speaker, Dr. Mor- ley Honey, was introduced by a former school mate, Mrs, Edgar Leask. Dr. Honey graduated from Port Perry High School and went to teacher's college. He served in the first world war and upon his return took up dentistry. He enlisted as 3 major in the second world war and was in the dental corps. Br. Honey practised in Sunny- brook hospital until his retire- ment in 1960. As a result of the influence of Dr. Robert McClure, Dr. Honey went to Rifle Shooting Won By Brooklin A team, representing the Brooklin Junior Farmers, won' the annual Junior Farmer Rifle Shooting Competition held at the Uxbridge Secondary School on Thursday, June 11th. All four Junior Farmer Clubs in the County were represented at the competition which was very keenly contested. Dr. Honey spoke of his early days in the local Church and Sunday School when Mr. Ross was Superintendant and Mr. A. J. Davis was teacher of the boys' class. He then gave an outline of conditions in India where there are eighty thousand people in an area the size of Port Perry and where seven out of ten go to bed hungry at night. He told of the various agencies at work seeking to raise the standard of living and to make the people self sustaining. At the close of his talk Dr. and Mrs, Honey showed colour- ful pictures of the hospital and surroundings and gave an inter- esting commentary. Mrs. Litt thanked the speaker for establishing for us a per- sonal link with the country we are now studying.
