Dr. Matthew Dymond, M.P.P., together with Mike Starr, M.P. and Albert Walker, M.L.A. will be guests of the Legion, as well as Port Perry Reeve J. J. Gib- son; Scugog's' Reeve, Victor Al- dred and Reeve Earl Martyn from Reach Townshp. Three pipe bands will head the Parade, from Bowmanville, Ajax and Caledonia Band from Oshawa. will Represent County Juniors Wayne Beath, a member of the Oshawa Kiwanis 4-H Grain Club for five years and the Scott 4-H Beef Calf Club for seven years, has been selected to represent Ontario County at the annual 4-H Club Leadership Week. . gen oo Wayne, along with other boys from across the Province, will attend this course at the Ont- ario Agricultural College, Guelph, July 13th to 17th in- clusive. Wayne has won several top awards through his participa- tion in 4-H activities, and will be a worthy representative for Ontario County. The $10,500 mortgage which was on the new building has been paid off and in the above picture, John Maw, on the left, President of the local branch watches as Edward Mulholland treasurer of the branch, burns the mortgage. --Staff Photo Port Perry Constable Knifed By Berserk Columbus Youth Six people were shot and a policeman was knifed when a youth went on a one-hour shoot- ing and wrecking rampage in tke village of Columbus, five miles north of Oshawa, recently. The 17-year youth was final- ly overpowered by three OPP constables and taken to jail in Whitby to await charges. Folice said the reign of ter- ror began after the youth had an argument with his grand- father. The youth smashed windows in his home, battered his moth- er's car and then disarmed Or- mand Barlow, 59, who had come out of his home with a shotgun, Police said wild shooting fol- lowed in which Mr. Barlow and five other people were hit by flying buckshot. Others hurt were Wilf Grif- fin, 48, Arthur Ross, 81, George Harris, 28, and an unidentified man and his daughter who were driving by. Const. Harold Hockins, Port Perry who helped subdue the youth, was slashed three times with a 12-inch butcher knife. He received superficial wounds. - Police said the youth shot at several passing cars, then re- turned home and tried to set it on fire. In custody, charged with pointing a firearm is John Dyer 17, Columbus. Police say other charges are pending. Canadian Legion . Burns Mortgage On Saturday evening last, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 419, Port Perry accomp- lished something every indivi- dual householder who lives on "Mortgage Road" would envy. The $10,500 Mortgage on the Legion Hall, Bay Street, Port Perry is paid off, and the Mem. bers gathered to witness the" formal burning of its indebted- ness. President John Maw, & Treas- uruer W. E. Mulholland called to the centre of the floor, those Comrades present who were among the co-signers of the Note at the time the money was borrowed. Some six Legion- naires were given a hearty round of applause for their faith in the solvency and fut- ure prosperity .of Branch 419 at a time when only the land was paid for.
