Announce Pheasant, Grouse, Quail and Partridge Seasons PHEASANT SEASONS ANNOUNCED BY MINISTER TORONTO -- The Hon. A. Kelso Roberts, Q.C., Minister of Lands and Forests, has announ- ced open seasons for pheasant hunting throughout Ontario. Few changes have been made from the season in 1963. On Pelee Island the season will be on October 22nd and 23rd, and an additional season will be held on October 29th and 30th. The bag limit for the first season will be eight cocks and two hens, while the bag limit for the sec- ond season will be seven cocks and three hens. In the rest of Essex County, and the Counties of Lincoln and Welland as well as the Townships of Ancaster, Barton, Saltfleet, Glanford and Dinbrook in the County of Wentworth, the season will open on October 28th and extend to November 4th. In Kent and Lambton Coun- ties, the pheasant season will open at the same time as the general season in Essex County on October 28th, but in these counties the season will extend until November 14th. Throughout the general southwestern Ontario pheasant range including the remainder of Wentworth County, the Counties of Brant, Dufferin, Elgin, Haldimand, Halton, Mid- dlesex, Norfolk, Oxford, Peel, Perth, Waterloo, Wellington & York, as well as the Townships of Hap, Stephen and Usborne in Huron County, and the Town- ships of East and West Flam- borough, Beverly in Wentworth County; the Townships of Ad- jala, Essa, Innisfil, Tecumseth, Tosorontio and West Gwillim- bury in Simcoe County; the Townships of Pickering, Reach, Scott, Uxbridge, Whitby and East Whitby in Ontario County, the season will be similar to last year's opening on October 21st and extending until Nov- ember 7th. In Bruce and Grey Counties, as well as the remain- der of Huron, Simcoe and Ont- ario Counties and all of eastern Ontario the pheasant season in 1964 will be from October 3rd to November 30th. In Clarke and Darlington Townships of Durham County, the season will again be October 3rd to Octo- ber 24th. In the latter two zones, where the season opens on October 3rd, the bag limit will be three birds per day of either sex. In the rest of the Province where the season opens on Oct- ober 21st or October 28th ,the bag limit will be three per day, not more than one of which shall be a hen, with the exception of Pelee Island where a special bag limit is outlined. OPEN SEASONS FOR GROUSE TORONTO -- The Hon. A. Kelso Roberts, Q.C., Minister of Lands and Forests, has an- nounced the open seasons for hunting ptarmigan, ruffed grouse, spruce grouse & sharp- tailed grouse. The season and bag limits an- nounced by Mr. Roberts are similar to those held in 1962 except for some boundary modi- fications in the Sault Ste. Marie Sudbury and North Bay Dist- ricts. In the area north of High- way #17, from Mattawa to Spragge and north of a line be- tween Spragge to the Interna- tional Boundary north of Cock- burn Island in the North Chan- nel, the season on all four spe- cies opens on September 15. closes on December 15 Soro. out this area for all four spe- cies ,except that in the terri- torial districts of Cochrane, Temiskaming and that part of the Kenora District north of the 11th base line, the season on | sharptails and ptarmigan will continue to March 31. This longer season for ptarmigan & sharptails established in 1962, allows residents of the area to take advantage of peak popula- tions of migrant sharptails whenever they are abundant without a special season being declared. In the area west of the west- efn boundaries of Simcoe and Peel Counties and in Clarke & Darlington Townships of Dur- ham County, the season on the four species will be from Oct- ober 3 to December 15. In the rest of Ontario, (south- eastern Ontario), the season will be September 26 to Decem- ber 15. The bag limits which are the same as in 1962 will allow the taking of 5 ruffed or spruce grouse in the aggregate per day and the possesion of 15 in ag- gregate; 5 sharptails per day and possession of 15; and 5 ptarmigan per day and posses- sion of 15. Throughout a large portion | of Ontario grouse populations are at a low in their cycle, but in many of the districts there was evidence of a slight in- crease in 1963 from the popula- tions in the previous year, BOBWHITE QUAIL SEASON TORONTO -- The Hon. A. Kelso Roberts, Q.C., Minister of Lands and Forests, has announ- ced the open season for quail in the Township of Raleigh in Kent County and the Township of Plympton in Lambton Coun- .ty.
