RE En AA J. Diefenbaker Will Be Present At PC Barbecue (Special)--The biggest free barbecue in Ontario County history,is on the agenda for this coming Saturday, August 15. Steerburgers, pony rides and political personalities are the order of the day at the farm of Heber Down on number 7 highway as the Progressive Conservative Associations of Ontario County sponsor their annual summer outing for re- sidents of the area. A number of people well- known in Federal and Provin- cial politics will be guests in- cluding Mike Starr, Federal Member of Parliament for the district and Matt Dymond and Ab Walker who represent Ont- ario County in the provincial legislature. Among the Special guests will be the Rt. Hon. John Dief- enbaker who will spend the day meeting and talking with bar- becue guests. A full program of races, games, pony rides and prizes has been arranged for the child- ren while older guests can de- vote themselves to other get- acquainted activities. There are also prizes for the oldest and youngest in attendance and for the largest family. The Pickering Blue Notes marching band will be on hand to add colour to the afternoon's acti- vities. The program gets un- der way at 2 p.m. The program of events goes on rain or shine and covered fa- cilities have been arranged in case of showers. The bringing of camp chairs or blankets might add to the comfort of the afternoon. Mrs. Marie Kroes entertained a number of Dutch ladies last Tuesday evening in honor of her mother, Mrs. Cornelissen of Holland who has spent the summer with her daughter and family, Mus. Stella Scofield and son Ted of Toronto visited Miss Edith Brooks on Saturday. Mrs. Scofield remained for a few days. Mrs. Aletha Holtby, Misses Hazel and Eva Gregg, and Mis- ses Jessie and Margaret Johns enjoyed a two day motor trip in Algonquin Park area last week. Brian Crosier, Toronto visit- ed his grandmother Mrs. Maude Crosier last Wednesday. Mrs. Meta Holtby is spend- ing a week with Miss Bertha Holliday, Whitby. Mrs. Margaret Steer, Ajax, was with her son Mr. Richard Steer, Mrs, Steer and family on the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Hendenson Me- ario County are welcome to attend this giant free barbecue. The Heber Down farm on #7 highway is located one mile west of Brooklin. Kenzie, Bonnie and Richard, Scarboro, Miss' Amy Whitely and Mr. Al McKeen, Toronto, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brooks and boys. Mr. and Mrs. Art Vander- voort visited relatives in White- vale Sunday evening. Miss Muriel Lamb, R.N., Kingston, was with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lamb on the week-end. Mrs. Dorothy Mulholland ar- rived home this week from a six week's visit to Europe and the British Isles. The U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Allan Jackson, Brook- lin last Thursday. The meet- ing opened with hymn and prayer, Mrs. Meta Holtby con- ducted the worship period, ass sisted by Mrs. Gwen Lamb and Mrs. Jo Bain. Mrs. Holtby gave a splendid paper on "Time". Pres. Mrs. Aletha Holtby chaired the business session. Fourteen members and three visitors were in attend- ance. Mrs. Roy Dobson was welcomed into our association. It was decided to purchase paint for the exterior of the church. Much volunteer labor is hoped for. Arrangements were discussed for the bazaar to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd. The purpose of this camp, sponsored by the Ontario De- partment of Agriculture, is to develop the leadership abilit- ies of those attending. Instruc- tion will be given in program development, social recreation, water safety and swimming, as well as a variety of other inter- est groups that the delegates choose.
