IIR ~~~ NIE Joyce Marguerite Strong United In Marriage To Alan Howard Ashton In Port Perry United Church Baskets of yellow and white mums formed a beautiful sett | ing in Port Perry United | Church on Saturday, October 3. at 3 o'clock, when Joyce Mar- guerite, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Strong, Port Perry, was united in marriage to Alan Howard Ashton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ashton of Epsom. The Reverend A. G. Rice offi- ciated at the double ring cere- mony. The wedding music was play- ed by Miss Gloria Hasitngs, who accompanied the soloist Mr. Walter Kerry as he sang The Wedding Prayer and 0 Perfect Love. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father looked lovely in a floor length white silk faille dress bouffant skirt | appliqued with Alencon lace, and an overlay of sequins with a large bow at back cascading | down centre back of gown and a lily point- bridal neck line. ! She wore a headpiece of pearl- | in coronet style with nylon tulle veiling falling softly over the face and a little below shoulder length at back. She carried Pink sweetheart rosebuds and white baby mums. Mrs. Harvey Dearborn was matron of honour; the brides- maids were Mrs. Garry McHugh and Miss Isabelle Strong all sisters of the bride. They were dressed alike in street length dresses of tur- quoise Peau de Soi featuring a scalloped neckline, a detachable overskirt trimmed with match- ing flowers and small Pill box hats of same, and carried yel- low mums. The flower girl, Miss Lorie Bust.el, neice of the groom wore Turquoise full skirt dress with matching flower hat, and car- ried a nosegay of white and vellow baby mums, 'Master David Geer, nephew of the bride was ring bearer. Mr. Keith Ashton, Epsom, was best man for his brother. The ushers were Mr. . The bridegroom's mother chose Royal blue silk knit dress, pink accessories, and a corsage of pink Carnations. Fore the honeymoon trip through northern Ontario the bride chose a teal blue boucle suit with natural Fox cuffs and black and white accessories, corsage of white baby mums. Prior to the marriage the bride was entertained at many pre - nuptial parties, among which was a cup and saucer shower held at Mrs. Don Asling. A miscellaneous shower was given for relatives and friends by Mrs. Barry Bushel at the home of Mrs, Howard Ashton, where she received many use- ful gifts. Mrs. Murray Williams held a miscellaneous shower for neigh- bours and friends and she re- ceived many lovely and useful gifts. A presentation of a Chrome Coffee Pot was given her by the employees of the Bank of Commerce where she is employ- ed. Mrs. Hugh Strong entertain- ed at a trousseau tea in hon- our of her daughter on Sept. 26th. Mrs. William Moase, a great aunt of the bride poured tea for the occasion. Misses Betty Badour and Carol Wal- lace served lunch. After the wedding rehearsal the bridal party was entertain- ed at the home of the groom's parents. Ashburn News Owing to anniversary service in St. John's Presbyterian Church, Port Perry on Sunday, Oct. 25th at 11 a.m., there will be no service in Burn's Church, Ashburn. Miss Peggy Graham, of Fort William spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed- gar Heron and attended the Leaper - Heron wedding on Saturday. Mr, and Mrs. Reg. Doubt, of Baileboro, were Saturday visit- ors with Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Ashton. Mr. and Mrs. H. Anderson, of Elora spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Nor- man Anderson. : The October meeting of the Ladies Bible Class was held at the home of Mrs. W. Routley, Brooklin, on Wednesday even- ing, Oct, 14th at 8.15 o'clock, with an attendance of twenty- two. The meeting opened with the singing of Hymn 140 "For the Beauty of the Earth". The scripture lesson, Psalm 103 was read by Mrs. C. Harrison and prayer by Mrs. W. Hopkins. Readings were given by Mrs. W. Routley; Mrs. H. Doble and Mrs. C. Bryant with "Thanks- | giving" the theme. Mrs. Hedge of Myrtle delighted everyone with her piano selections. Refreshments were served and a social half hour was en- ioyed. Rev. K. A. and Mrs. Heron, sons Jeffrey and Jordan, of Petrolia spent a couple of days last week with Mr. and Mrs, Edar Heron.
