PORT PERRY STAR -- 1965 2 - Thyrsday, February 18th 15 Register For Square Dance Class The annual square dancing school conducted by Ontario County Junior Farmers is again a decided suce és. 6 persons registered for the open- ing of the school about two weeks ago, however anyone in- terested may still register and take part in the course. The school is held in the Au- ditorium of Port Perry Public School and will continue for another eight of the ten sche- duled weeks. Instruction was strongly em- phasized during the two first weeks of the course, but this Friday "open dancing" will begin. To. the right is a group of - dancers going through the in- tricate steps of square dancing. Carneglo--215, The annual meeting of the Ontario County Hog Producers' Association was held in the Township Hall, Sunderland, on Tuesday, February 9th, at 11.00 am. Dr. Gerry Green, V.S., Sun- derland, in his address, stress- ed the importance of good management practices in a suc- cessful hog enterprize, He em- phasized the value of high | quality breeding stock, particu- larly boars from Advanced Re- gistry breeding. Well balanced rations, and constant vigilance in the control of disease, wera also essential. Mr. Clare Curtin, Zone Di- rector, Ontario Hog Producers' Marketing Board, reported on the work done by the Board during the year. One of the interesting projects started during the year is a research programme carried out in co- operation with the Animal Husbandry Department, Uni versity of Guelph, and to which an $8,000.00 contribution was made. Mr. Lynn Fair, Agricultural Representative, outlined the Ontario County Boar Premium Policy. Thirteen farmers took advantage of this policy last year. He announced the win- ners of the 1964 Hog Quality Competition. These were: -- Section 1--farmers producing 25 to 100 hogs 1st--Keith Heron, Blackwater, #1 2nd--Maustyn McKnight, Uxbridge, #2 Section 2--farmers producing 101 to 200 hogs 1st--Wilmot Suggitt, Sunderland 2nd--J.
