; REA, : HONEYDALE W.I. The Honeydale W.I. held their January meeting in the Angli- can Parish Hall. The President opened the meeting in the usual way. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approv- ed. The Treasurer then gave her report. The correspond- ence was read and discussed, Mrs, Naples and Mrs. Plough. man were to take a Sewing Course -- "Focus on Finishes" in the Anglican Parish Hall, Feb. 16th and 17th. A motion was made to send for 40 copies of "The Federated News". The Secretary was to send for 24 'more coffee spoons. Murs. Bar- thau is looking 'after sale, of same. Tickets on a rug and a cushion are to be handed out. Draw for these to be made at June meeting. The 4-H Girls had started their classes--Miss A. Dodd re- ported fourtedn girls; Mrs. Carnochan reported nine girls. A motion was made to give each club a donation. The reports were then given by the Con- venors. _ - Mrs. Wm. Moase gave a very interesting report on the Dist- rict Directors Meeting held at Brooklin. The District Annual Meeting will be held at Brough- am this year, and members were asked to think about a display for same, Mrs. S. Cawker then reported on the meeting she attended at the home of Mrs. Francey. The 1967 Convention will be held at Guelph The Ploughing Match will be held at Unionville in the Fall, Greenbank W.I Mrs. Ken Rodd, hostess for the Jan, meeting welcomed a smaller atendance than usual "owing to slippery, rutty roads After the opening procedures, Pres, Mrs. N. Smith, read a New Year's Poem, thanked the hostess and welcomed visitors and members. Roll Call: "My favourite dessert recipe" proved that we still like the good old- fashioned recipe too. Moved by Mrs. H. McMillan, | seconded by Mrs. R. Baird that Mrs. J. Ianson be Curator of Tweedsmuir History. Carried. The Short Course, scheduled "for April 1st has been changed to April 9th--one day, in Green- bank Hall. "Choosing and Us- ing of Fabrics". A committee has been set up |i to take care of the display at Port Perry Fair. Theme -- Canadiana. There will be a telephone] euchre in the near fututre. Mrs. A. McMillan has spoons for sale, Ontario, The late Pres. Kennedy, The Late Sir Winston Churchill. So ladies contact Mrs. A. McMillan, Mr. H. Phoenix, member of the Port Perry Hospital Board, brought us some enlightening facts of our own local hospital. A short question and answer period followed. We appreciate him coming and giving of his time. The Queen, Grace and a delicious lunch closed the meet- ing. The Feb, meeting of the Greenbank W.I. will be held at the home of Mrs. Robt. An- derson. Guest Speaker: Mrs, E. A. Collins, Ex. Sec'y of T.B. Association, She will be show- ing pictures, instead of Hamilton. |: and the Institute is to have a display in a booth at this Match. The highlight of the meeting was an Auction Sale -- a nice sum was realized for the Trea- sury, mostly due to our very capable auctioneer, Mrs, Fred Warren, who should be encour- aged to carry on in this new venture. The minutes were read & approved and the Treasurer gave her re- port. The correspondence was then read and discussed. A letter from the Blackstock Fair Board re a Museum exhibit for the Fair in. August was dis- cussed. Mrs. Naples and Mrs. Ploughman were to attend a Short Course for Leaders in the Parish Hall, Feb, 16 & 17th. Some members offered to pro- vide lunch for this. There is to be a short course at the home of Mrs. Earl Bryant, entitled 'Embroidery Stitches" on Mar. 9th & 10th. A motion was made that we give a donation toward the Scholarship Fund. An Officers' Conference is to be held at Guelph, May 5 & 6. The reports 'of the Standing| Committees were then given. The meeting was then turned .over to the group in charge of Program. This was the Public Relations Meeting, and Mrs. Sam Naples gave a very informative talk on the Motto--*All Nations Smile in the Same Language". A Sing-Song followed, led by Mrs. N. Williams, when songs of all different countries were sung. 'Mrs, Cawker then gave a very interesting talk on "The Peace Gardens", which are situated on the border between Manito- ba and North Dakota. Mrs. Fred Warren gave a reading orn Westminster Abbey, from the book "From a Roadside Window" by Ethel Chapman. Lunch was served by Mrs. Frank Whitfield's group. Hilltop Herald| By Gayle Wright Friday last the Brock boys bas- ketball teams travelled to Port Perry. Unfortun- telly for the : IPort Perry team Brock went home the victors. The juior game was very close and exciting with one point separating the teams at the end of the game. The girls journeyed to Brock to play the basketball teams there. The senior girls were defeated in a close game but the junior girls were victorious and with their victory they have the privilege to travel to the Georgian Bay Tournament. Friday evening the gymnasi- um played host to a multitude of happy young dancers. The Valentine's Party and dance was a great success. Friday, February 19, the an- nual Variety Night will be held. Friends, relatives and students are all welcome. From what I have heard it will be a very satisfying evening. - Saturday, February 20, the Georgian Bay Wrestling Tour- nament will be held at our school. There will be an ad- mission fee of 60c. to cover ex- penses, Blackstock Fair To Hold Beard Growing Contest To publicize the Centennial celebrations of the 1965 Fair, the Blackstock Fair Board are planning a Beard Growing Con- test. The hope to create some of the "atmosphere of the early days of the Fair which was first held in 1861, The Board is looking for at least 10 resi- dents of Cartwright who will try for a share of the $100. Prize money. Prizes have been tentatively set at $50. for first; $30. second and $20. for third. There is a possibility that extra money will be available for additional prizes. Cheque To Hospital Auxiliary Eight members of the Auxili- ary attended a meeting on Monday, February 15th at Port Perry' Memorial Hospital with Mrs. M. B. Dymond presiding. The meeting opened with the Lord's Prayer which was fol- lowed by the reading of the minutes by Mrs. B. L. Wana- maker. In the absence of the Treasurer, Mrs. D, Crozier, the financial statement was not given, Mrs. Mumford, corres- pondence secretary, read a thank - you note from Mrs, Brooks and also a letter from the Mental Health Association in Oshawa. The Association will hold its annual meeting on Feb. 18th at 8 p.m. at the Y.M.C.A. 199 Centre St., and the public are invited to hear Dr. J. D. Mec- Culloch_ speak on "Some. As: pects of Mental Health and | Marriage". Mrs. Dymond reported two prices for X-ray equipment-- one over $4,000 and one over $2000, In view of the dispar- ity, it was decided to delay a decision until more could be learned about the type and range of equipment. No definite vote was; taken on the summer project<in view of the small attendance, but it was decided to construct "For- feit Calendars" and to distrib- ute them to the Organizations for action in April or May. A cheque for $100 was re- ceived from the ladies Oranga Benevolent Association in Blackstock and is most warmly appreciated. A letter of thanks will be sent to the Treasurer, Mrs. Marjorie Van Camp.
