Seed Fair And Hay Show Successful Event The annual Ontario County Seed Fair and Hay Show was held in the Township Hall Brooklin, on Tuesday, March 30 with a record number of entries and exhibitors. 42 exhibitors showed a total of 95 entries. Mr. Garnet Rickard, Bow- manville, and Mr. Ken Mec- Morine, Plant Products Divi- sion, Canada Department of Agriculture, Toronto, were the official judges on the grain and small seeds classes. Mr. Eu- gene Lemon, Stouffville, was the official judge on the hay and silage classes. The championship awards on the various classes are as fol- lows: 1. Grand Champion Award, donated by Milton Parkin, for the exhibitor winning the high- est points in wheat, oats, bar- ley, and corn classes-- Russell Morrison, R.R. 2, Beaverton. 2. Hay Championship--H. H. Geode & Son Trophy--Ivan Norton, Goodwood Pl Prince Albert News An attractive array of daffo- dil graced the sanctuary of the church on Sunday while our minister Rev. A. Rice delivered a worthwhile message. Mr. B, Snelgrove rendered a violin number as an extra note of music. Offering gathered by Chas. Willes and John Hunter. You are aware our minister has been conducting a Com -municants Class each Saturday morning for the last few weeks. Therefore Palm Sunday, April 11th, 2 p.m. a reception of new members will be received into - the church. Please feel free to come along and join in the fel- lowship next Sunday, Tuesday evening at 6.30 children and adults assembled in the church basement to en- joy a "free" pot luck supper. Hot dishes of food and refresh- ing desserts were heartily en- joyed. Dishes washed, tables packed away with seating ac- comodation available once again, Near eight o'clock Mr. Terry Hodgins ably acted as chairman for the well arranged variety program. Piano and vocal numbers, Singing trios & lastly the spelling match ¢on- ducted by Mrs. Jewell. Appreciation to Mrs, Sandi- scn who accompanied all selec- tions. The talent from outside localities certainly added enjoy- ment to the evening. To all who attended and assisted we the U.C.W. and S.8. say "thank you". Near ten folk from our midst enjoyed 'attending the "Sweet Adelines", Scugog Island Wed- nesday night. Mr. and Mrs. N. Wilson visit- ed her sister Mr. and Mrs, J. Rodd, Blackwater, Mr. and Mrs. G, Hunter, Lin- da and Susan enjoyed a recent week-end with her sister Mr, and Mrs. L. Glasgow and sons, Beamsville, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hope, New- castle spent Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs, W. Roy Hope. Paul Polito, Lindsay spent a happy week-end with his cousin, John Love. 3. Fall Wheat Championship --Russell Morrison, R.R. 2, Beaverton. 4. Oat Championship--~Jim Gerrow, R.R. 3, Port Perry. 6. Barley Championship-- Ralph Morrison, R.R. 2, Beaverton. 6. Potato Championship-- Albert Hockley, R.R. 1, Claremont. 7. Ear Corn Championship-- Robert Hunter, R.R. 1, Brooklin. The afternoon programme was under the direction of President Walter Beath, with 90 farmers in attendance. Dr. Stan Young, Department of Crop Science, University of Guelph, was the guest speaker. He spoke on the topic "Increas- ing Crop Yields through better Cropping Systems". A panel discussion followed on that topic--New Trends in Crop Production. The modera- tor of Agriculture, Lindsay, and .the panel members were Neil Raines, Blackwater, Don Had- den, Blackwater, Clare Vernon, Port Perry. Mr. John Dryden, Reeve of Whitby Township, extended a welcome on behalf of Whitby Township, and the County of Ontario. The Seed Fair is sponsored euch year by the Ontario Coun- ty Soil and Crop Improvement Association in co-operation with the Ontario Department of Ag- riculture.
