"Built on County Road No. 2, or better known as the Oshawa Road, the new Lodge Hall was completed almost a year ago and the first meeting was held in the building in June, 1964. Warriner Lodge was founded in 1871, and the first meetings were held in the Marlow Block on the corner of Perry & Queen Streets. The Malbelle Rebekah Lodge, No. 348, a Ladies Auxiliary of the Lodge was instituted in 1948 and has since that time been actively engaged in, and supported the Lodge in various ways. The successful banquet on Saturday night was catered to by ladies of Maybelle Rebekah Lodge, and this is only one of the many responsibilities under- taken by the members. Short speeches were given during the evening by J. J. Gib- son, reeve of Port Perry, who extended congratulations to the Lodge and the members, and George Beare, chairman of the "building committee. In charge of the Dedication Service was the Dedication Staff from London, one of the only two such bodies within Closed Friday The Port Perry Star office will remain closed all day Friday, (Good Friday). Novice Team To Brampton Tournament 1000 boys between the ages : of 8 to 10 will take part in the . annual Brampton Novice Hoc key Tournament, held during the week April 16th to 24th, Port Perry will also be repre- sented by a team and will be ; playing in the "D" class, teams | from towns with population under 3000. This is the largest Novice tournament in North America and more than 100 games will be played during the week. Over 60 teams will partici- pate and the Port Perry team wil! compete against 11 other teams in class "D", including teams from Uxbridge, Canning- ton, Woodbridge, ete. These are all pupils of Marie Taylor, A.R.C.T.(Organ) Pioneer In The Poultry Industry Ronald A. Peel Ron A. Peel, a respected fig- ure in the poultry industry passed away suddenly April 7, 1965 in the Oshawa General General Hospital. He was in his 66th year. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph I'eel of Port Perry, the deceased was born in Manvers Township but received his education and spent the most of his life in! Port Perry. He has been in the poultry meat business for 38 years and, was respected in the poultry in-! dutry for his high quality pro- | ducts and sincere business; practices with his many cus-! Passes At 65 tomers in Canada and through- out the world. Mr. Peel started his career by first raising fancy Plymouth Rock eapons which in 1939 had the distiction of supplying King George VI's tour across Canada and the United States. When the meat chicken in- dustry turned to broilers, he was one of the first to change 'and has directed his quality product to be one of the lead- ing breeding stocks in the world today. Ron Peel's reputation for years hinged on the specialized (Continued on Page 13) Decides To Close Streets Due To High School Addition At a special meeting of Port Perry. council 'on Saturday, April 3rd, it was decided to have Silver and Reno Streets closed. At the same meeting an ear- lier agreement between Mr. J. Ballard and the Village in re- gard to the construction of a, sub-division on Silver Street was cancelled. Present at the meeting were Mr. John Ballard, and on be-! half of the High School Arca Board, Wm. Beare and Ray Fralick. Mr. Tom Harris, the | Town Solicitor was also present. Two motions were passed at | the meeting & read as follows: | 1) "That the agreement with | John Ballard, re the sub-divi- sion on Silver Street be can- celled after paying the sum of $500.00." | 2) "That the Silver and Reno St. be closed from the North limit of the Smitherman pro- perty to Simcoe St. and this be sold to the High School Area Board for the sum of $500.00." It was further decided that it would be the responsibility of the Village to take care of clos- ing the road and laying the 8" watermain to connect with Sinicoe Street.
