A large crowd was in attendance including the many welcome visitors from surrounding communities. Rev. Harris assisted by the S. School Supt., Mr. Rodd Foster con- ducted the devotional period and the guest preacher was Rev. Colin Rudd of Peterborough. The wee folk of the ppimary department, accompanied by Miss Lynne Foster, sang their little songs and also dedicated the offering. Other musical numbers were rendered by the Junior Choir under the direc- tion of Mrs. Lee. The summer schedule will be- gin next Sunday with Sunday School at 10 am. and Church service at 11 o'clock. Rev. Ron McCaw of Wilfrid will be the speaker next Sunday morning. The Bay of Quinte Confer- ence is meeting this week at Kingston Mr. H. McMillan and Mr. H. Howsam attended the Masonic Service at Scugog Island last Sunday. Miss Grace Couves, Montreal spent the holiday weekend with her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Art Couves. Mr.and Mrs. David Morton spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs. G. Beare. Seeing is believing and every- body is happy to see what is taking place on that long-ne- glected vacant lot between the homes. A nice new house which will be occupied by Miss Jean Phoenix and her mother is be- ing built there by the Scugog Lumber Co. Around forty years ago a store on that property was destroyed by fire and since then it has been a real eyesore. Down through the years the ownership has changed several times and various building pro- jects have been dreamed up but none of them ever got off the ground. Now however the pic- ture has changed. Our Lucky Store which has been in the Phoenix name since 1938 has (Queen and Rosa Sts.) 1. C. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Rodd and family spent the holiday in Therese, Quebec. Sunday dinner guests at the Ralph Dusty home were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Leask and soa John, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beaton and Mr. Franklin Phoenix. There was much activity last Wednesday evening, some at- tending Wick Supper, two car- oads of UCW ladies at Leask- dale, the W.I. meeting at the home of Mrs. E. Clements and a get-to-gether of scholars from the area Public Schools at Port Perry. Our sympathy is ex Mrs. Geo. Till whose sigter, S. Philp passed away recéntly. Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Gray of Leaskdale visited rs. | Evelyn Tait on Sunday. Mrs. Wright of Cannington is spending a few days withher brother, Mr. Geo. Matthews. Recently Mr. Howard McMil- lan purchase some cattle and while they were being unloaded from the truck at his ranch 'they decided that was no place for them so they made a wild dash for freedom and took off towards the swamp at Northern Dancer speed. Nobody will ever know what they had in mind, perhaps they were hit by the travel bug or they may have taken a notion to visit the Worlds Fair. This much is cer- tain however, Howard spent] several anxious and frustrating days, but finally with the help of neighbours, an airplane and Murray Lee's truck standing by to transport them back to the ranch they were.all rounded up, ily of four will take possession Muly 1st.
