| 3 # Blackstock News (Too late for last week) By O. Hill The last meeting for this term of Explorers was held on Tuesday afternoon, 10 members attended. Meeting opened with Explorer Ceremony. Treasur- er's report was given and min- utes read. Red Explorer Stars were pre- sented to Marilyn Duff; Dale Van Camp; David Larmer and Leslie Wright who was absent will get hers. These have com- pleted one year. Blue Stars viere presented to Linda Me- Laughlin; Janet Twiner; Heath- er Dorrell. Eleanor Wright will also receive hers, for hav- ing completed two years. Three year Gold Stars were presented to Graham Duff and Bob Swain. These two boys also received achievement pins for having completed the full course. Nancy Dorrell told the final chapter of the 'Story of Brazil', Graham and Bob led the wor- ship on "The Baptism of Jesus" and meeting closed by singing "Jesus Tender Shepherd". As a little closing of séason treat, ice cream and freshie was ser- ved. Eighteen Messengers met with their two leaders Tues day afternoon for the final meeting of this term. Games from Trinidad and Brazil were played, followed by the Mes- senger Motto, Prayer & Hymn. Elizabeth Thompson, told two stories from Brazil thus fini- shing the Study Book. ' Offer- ing was received and dedicated and meeting close with prayer, after which all went to the store and received an ice cream bar. Gold Cord Ceremony & Tea By L.A. Another very pleasant after- noon was spent recently in the Recreation Centre. when the Local Association of Guides and Brownies sponsored a Cup and Saucer Tea. Following a dainty lunch and coffee a very inter- esting programme was given. The Color Party raised the Flag. The Queen was sung. District Commissioner Kyte welcomed all ladies, then pre- sented the following: Shirley Turner with her Maple Leaf Pin, for having completed her Brewnie Leader's Course; Con- nic Swain with her Brownie Pack Holiday license and Brown Pine Tree Pin and Lone Ranger Ivy Hamilton with 20 year star. Captain Gwenith Thompson now invited Marlene Tomchi- shin and her mother to chairs at the front and members of the Brownies and Guides pre- sented a skit portraying Mar- lene's life as a Brownie and Guide. Commissioner Kyte put the Gold Cord in place on Mar- lene's right shoulder. Marion Rahm, Badge Secretary of L.A. presented the Gorld Cord Pin; Mrs, Hudson, President of the Mother's Auxiliary presented her with certificate. Nancy Dorrell made the presentation of an Album of colored pictures of her Brownie and Guide life and Capt, Thompson: gave her a copy of this Gold Cord cere- mony. Mrs. R. Ford (in place of Marlene's grandmother) and Captain Hamilton poured cof- fee. The beautiful decorations 'that the High School put up for their At Home are still up in the Rec. Centre and with cup and saucer bouquets on the little tables made the room a very delightful setting. 0. N. 0. Club The May meeting of the O. N.O. Club was held at the home of Mrs. Merrill Van Camp and took the form of a pyjama party. Minutes were read and approved. Eileen McLaughlin reported on the progress of the plans for W.I. banquet. Noreen Malcolm gave the Treasurer's report. Several notes of thanks were received. Suggested by Edith McLaughlin, that we pur- chase flags for Guides & Cubs. Noreen thanked all who help- ed with the collection for Can- cer, when $368.45 was realized from the drive. Several names were handed the Fair Commit- tee for Centenary invitations. Collection was received. Roll call was answered with home baking and the recipe, which was later auctioned off by Joan Paisley. 26 ladies attended. Lunch of salad plate and coffee was then enjoyed. In the United Church Sunday morning there was a service of Dedication to Missions. In be- half of the Messengers, Janice Dorrell told the highlights of their term studies and Susan Thompson presented their of- ferings. Bob Swain told of the work of the Explorers and Gra- ham Duff presented their offer- ings. Mr. John Carnaghan M. and M. Treasurer of the Church accepted the gifts and thanked the groups. Mrs. Lorne Thompson sang a sclo "Was it My Saviour Stand- ing There?" Rev. P. Romeril chose as his text "Shouldering our own Responsibilities. 2 Banquet The Father and Son Banquet was held recently in the Recrea- tion Centre. 30 of the 33 Cubs were able to attend accompanied by their fathers. Ross Duff, President of the group com- mittee extended the welcome PORT PERRY STAR, Thurs, May 27th, 1965 -- 5 and called on Canon Ashmore who said Grace. Some honoured guests were: Mrs. Vernon Hud- son, President of the Mothers Auxiliary; Mrs. Erie Hunting- ton, Secretary of Mother's Aux- iliary; Mrs, Bob Bryans, Secre- tary of the O.N.O. Club. The Cub Leaders are: Mrs. Carl Adams; Mrs. Roy Phayre; Miss Aileen Van Camp and Mr. Bob | Wheeler. Following the delicious dinner prepared by the Mothers Auxi- liary and served by some of the Girl Guides, was the toast to the Queen, Steven Tomchishin proposed the toast to the Fa- thers and Ralph Larmer replied. The toast to the Cubs was pro- posed by Grant Campbell and Richard Gunter replied. Mrs. Adams gave the report.of Cubs explaining the progress step by . step and introduced Cubs at each stage. Dale Van Camp was presented with his First Star. Films were shown.
