hd Blackstock News By O. Hill The June meeting of Black- stock Women's Institute was held in the Community Hall on Wednesday evening the 2nd, with the President presiding. Meeting opened with the Ode and Collect. The theme for the evening was Agriculture and the roll call was "My Favourite Break- fast Cereal", Treasurer's re- port showed finances in good standing. During the business period it was decided not to enter at Orono Fair this year. A gift of money is to be sent the adopted boy in Hong Kong for his birthday. Mrs. M. Gra- ham gave the District Direct- ors report of the District An- nual. A bus trip was discussed and a committee appointed to obtain information. Mrs. F. Hoskin, Mrs. M. McKee and Mrs. F. Staniland were appoint- ed branch directors. A dona- tion is to be sent to Sick Child- ren's hospital. Programme was in charge of Mrs. J. A. McArthur. Mrs, V, Bailey capably responded to the motto "From King to Beggar, whate'er befall--the Farmer he must feed them all". Mrs. McArthur gave a very informative paper on the his- tory of cheese making. Two contests were presented -- one on etiquette and an alphabet contest. After the "Queen" lunch was served by the group and a social time spent, "At- tendance 25 ladies. Sunday was United Church Sunddy School anniversary. Two very fine services were held with Rev. Duncan White, M.A., B.D., guest speaker. The theme of his address to the children, 'tho equally fitting for older persons also was: "The Making of a Christian". In the morning about 50 children who had been trained by Mrs, Lorne Thompson, Mrs. Lloyd Wright, Miss Donna Me- Laughlin and Mr. Richard Hol- den, sang three fine numbers. i Junior organists Misses Eliza- "beth Thompson and Nancy Dor- rell presided quite capably at the organ. In the evening the choir from Boys Training School, Bowman- ville rendered three numbers-- "How Great Thou Art", "The Lord is My Shepherd" and "In the Garden". Rev. White gave another inspiring sermon on "Symbols of Success". Mr. Glenn Larmer, Sunday School Superintendant presided at both services, introduced the speaker and expressed the thanks, ete. In the A. M. chairs were packed into every available corner to accomodate the con- gregation. In the evening the regular seats were filled. Among the beautiful flowers were a basket from the Law- rence family and one from N. McNally in Memory of loved ones. Mr. and Mrs, Norton Van Camp, Listowel], were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Van Camp and Miss Aileen. Mr. & Mrs. Eber Snowden, of Courtice, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Larmer and family. Mr, and Mrs. Harold Hawk- ins, Port Perry, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mountjoy and family. Miss Helen Van Camp, Osh- awa, spent Sunday with her mother Mrs. W. W. Van Camp. Mr. and Mrs. Les Beacock, Prince Albert and Mr. and Mrs. George Skelding were Sunday dinner guests and Mr. and Mrs. Norman MeNally, Colborne were Friday over night guests of Mrs. Cecil Hill. Mr. and Mrs, Norman Me- Nally were Saturday noon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl [ Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Martin, Fred, Joyce and Nancy, Osh- awa were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs, Harold Swain and fa- mily.
