Epsom Public School Awards Carol Wilson received the General Proficiency Award do- nated by Epsom Community Club, Ian McLaurin received the English Award donated by Bethesda Reach W.I. Trudy Brawn won the Senior Trophy donated by Mr. Nelson for Bible Drill. Perfect Attendance Awards were won by Kristen Madsen, Gr. 8; Jim Zoet, Gr. 6; Elin Madsen, Gr. 5 The teaching staff at Epsom P.S. will remain the same for next fall" with one exception-- Mr. Smart of Oshawa will re- place Mr. Jack who plans to enroll in an Officers Training Course in the fall. Two days before Mr. and Mrs. Edwards were to take up resi- dence in Hillsdale near Barrie, they were transferred to Mans- field near Alliston. We welcome Mr. & Mrs. Me- Kinley to their new home. The Induction service was held in the church with a very good attendance. Mr. Engleby of Goodwood gave the Message and Rev. Norman Pick performed the Induction ceremony. A social hour followed. Mr. and Mrs. McKinley are from the Toronto area, Mrs. McKinley has been teaching in Secarbor- ough. Thanks to all our friends who in any way helped to make our bake sale a success last Friday. Miss Mildred Evans was home with her parents for the holiday week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Viall and Richard of Rochester are visjt- ing relatives in the area this week, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Geer & Gordon were at Loon Lake in Haliburton for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Len Beach and Boys were with her parents Mr. and Mrs. D. Prentice. Keith stayed for a holiday with his grandparents. Congratulations to Keith Wilson who successfully com- pleted his second year at Tor- onto University. Also to Gerald Asling who also passed, com- pleting his third year Dentis- try. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Catherwood, Mr, Allan Ashton were guests Sunday with Mr. Howard Ashton. Robbie Card spent the week- end with Art Preece at their cottage on Lake Simcoe. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Demera of Scugog were dinner guests one evening with. Mr. and Mrs. David Prentice. } Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McGregor and Mr. John Webster visited with Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Barry Bushell, and Mrs. supper & Mrs. Bruce Wilson of Trenton were visiting Mr. & Murs. end. Mr. Ross Bailey is showing the E. P. Taylor's Angus Herd from Winfields farm again this year. They will be at the Cal- gary Stampede this week. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Jackson have moved to Uxbridge. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Jeffery of Parry Sound and Mr. and Mrs. James Koster and Kirby of Scarborough called on Mrs. G. Jeffery last Tuesday. Miss Jean Graham of Lind- say was with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Munro on Wednesday, Mr. & Mrs. George Johnston and Gary visited them on Sunday Recent callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. On Monday Murray left to take a summer course at Waterloo Luthern College. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Taylor visited her uncle Mr. Fleetwood Best of Wadina, Sask., who is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Milton Best of Sandford. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Davis, Jean and Bill of Sunderland visited Mr. and Mrs. L. Lyons on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Medd and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moore were at Bobcaygeon on Sunday. Pat McCaffery of Hamilton is spending the summer vaca- tion with Mr. and Mrs. M. Bailey. Hill The United Church picnic which was rained out Monday evening -- but all were happy to stay home and see the rain pouring down -- was held Tues. evening June 29th at Cart- wright Park, Caesarea. Smartie Guessing contest-- Heather Dorrell (she had the Senior Citizens Club There were fifty members who attended the meeting at the Hall on Wed., June 23rd. Mrs. Chapman, the President, occu- pied thé chair after being on holidays for over a month. A hearty welcome was extended to all. Many who were ill are pro- gressing nicely. We were glad to see Mrs. L. Duff after her serious illness .and to know she is able to be out. This will be the last meeting until Wed. Sept. 8th. Much business was discussed. Two bus loads go to Cobourg 'on Wed., July 14th, meeting at the IGA Store at 12 p.m. that day. Anyone wanting to go please contact those in charge. Mrs. Robertson, one of our organizers for bus trips is on a month holiday, so contact Mrs. Chapman. Buses meet with folk all over to attend this United Senior's picnic. Every Club will contribute something for entertainment on the lovely grandstand there, and older folk sure have lots of talent. This is a yearly event, and now mem- bers can procure tickets, if any seats over, are available, After business (some to be left over until Sept.), meeting closed with Queen. Social time enjoyed, cards, etc. and dainty Iunch. Two bus loads of Senior Citi- zens left at 8 a.m. from Port Perry on 17th June for Niagara Falls. What a happy crowd. We visited the Horticultural College near Niagara and enjoyed the "numerous beds of roses and many snaps were taken, We also stopped for coffee at Bo- tanical Gardens, near Hamilton, what beauty we also saw there. Then to Queenston Heights where there were numerous picnic tables and all took a picnic lunch, Then on to the magnificent Falls. Stayed there for one hour, then on home stopped at Watts Restaur- ant and had sumptuous dinner of fried chicken, etc. Home at 9 p.m,, tired all of us, but happy and grateful to those untiring people, that have planned and worked so hard to organize the trips, and don't forget we older citizens like a good outing and interests that keep us busy. These also are very useful if you ara Iucky in the draw. * * * Holidays The schools are closed for two months again Holidays for pupils and teachers the same Some school reports were excellent, some not so good But give them a chance, so they can be understood. And when they grow up, maybe they're not smart in school They most will be good citizens, usually as a rule. Numbers will enjoy summer camp by the water, They love to play and have fun, these sons and daughters, Let's all be careful driving from place to place, To make everyone's holiday happy and safe, These young folk are the next generation to come, We don't want them maimed, as happens to some, We live in a country, lots of freedom and pleasure, Where plans are made to make it best ever.
