NACI INT SNA New Stamp Honors Winston Churchill Details of a Canadian post- age stamp to be issued August "12 to honour Sir Winston Chur- chill were released today by the Honourable René Tremblay, Postmaster General. The stamp is the first Cana- dian stamp printed by the duo- tone offset process, a method of printing particularly suited to the reproduction of Photo- graphs. It features the famous "roaring lion" portrait of Sir Winston Churchill by Yousuf Karsh, internationally renowned Canadian photographer. Com- plementary design is the work of Philip Weiss, Canadian art- ist and Director of the Depart- ment of Industry's National De- sign Branch. ONTARIO COUNTY W.I. PICNIC The Ont. County W.I. pienic (combining Ont. South & Ont. North Districts) was a very!. pleasant event, taking place at Birdseye Center park, Tuesday, July 13th. Over 100 members registered -- representing Insti- tutes from all over the County. The programme in charge of Ont, North proved to be very interesting. During a brief business meet- ing, it was unanimously decided to hold the Ont. County picnic next year at Birdseye Center, with the luncheon to be held at} the noon hour (12.80). The pro- gramme will follow--Ont. South convening same. The Ayrshire Cattle Club of Ontario held their Provincial Field Day at the farm of Wil. liam G. Reid, Ashburn, on Sat- urday, July 24. ' Among the gathering, of ap- proximately 250 in number, were J. D. MacKechnie, Secre- tary Manager, and William D. Paul, Extension Representative, both of The Ayrshire Breeders' Association of Canada; and T. O. Loveless, President of the Ayrshire Cattle Club of Ontario. A special feature of the day's programwconsisted of the Ayr- shire Promotion Fund Calf Sale, in which 21 heifer calves, donated by various breeders, were offered for sale by auction. The sale brought a total of $1,366.00 for an average of $64.62, while the top heifer brought $140.00, Proceeds from sale will be directed to the new Ayrshire Promotion Fund for Ayrshire Breeders Attend Provincial Field Day July 24 the purpose of breed promotion. The gathering also enjoyed a picnic luncheon served on the lawns of the Reidell Farm, and a general inspection. of the buildings and cattle. The Reids are currently milk- ing approximately 100 register- ed Ayrshires, all of which are managed and fed individually during the milking routine. Mr. Reid explained that his. show cows received no preferential treatment throughout their lac- tation, but are managed along with the rest of the herd. A lucky draw in the form of an Ayrshire heifer calf, donated by the Ayrshire Cattle Club of Ontario, was won by Garry Mec- Craig, R.R. 2, Merrickville, Ont.
