Thursday, October 7, 1965 6 -- PORT PERRY STAR, The Scott 4-H and Junior Ag- ricultural Clubs held their achievement day at Scott Fair on Wednesday, September 22. Thirteen members of the Scott 4-H Beef Calf Club and eleven members of the Scott Junior Calf Club exhibited their calves at the fair, resulting in a high percent completion for both clubs. The Arthur Percy Showman- ship Trophy, awarded to the 4- H member obtaining the high- est points in showmanship, was won this year by Jeff Bailey, R.R. 4, Uxbridge. The top three entries in the steer class ,which brought out several Queen's Guineas nomi- nees, were as follows-- "1st--Dorothy Brown, R.R. 1, Oshawa -- Angus 2nd--Donald McTavish, R. 8, Uxbridge -- Shorthorn. 3rd--Sandy McTavish, R.R. 8, Uxbridge -- Shorthorn. In the Junior Calf Club show, the top beef showman was David McTavish, R.R. 3, Ux- bridge, while the top dairy showman was Isabell Flett, R.R. 2, Oshawa. The beef claves were judged by Mr. Ken Wyatt of Goodwood, while the dairy claves were placed by Mr. Ralph Chambers of Wilfred. In the Scott 4-H Grain Club show, 15 members exhibited their seed oat samples, result- ing in a 100% completion for the club. The top three samples were as follows: Ist--Dale Swanick, R.R. 3, Uxbridge 2nd--Norman Wilson, R.R. 2, Uxbridge 3rd--Bruce Wilson , R.R. 2, Uxbridge There were 10 entries in the Scott 4-H Potato Club show, with the top three seed potato entries being as follows: 1s--Margaret May, 4-H Achievement Day Held At Scott Fair R.R. 1, Goodwood 2nd--Bruce Norton, R.R. 1, Claremont 3rd--Linda Johnson, R.R. 4, Uxbridge These top three entries were retained by the Department of Agriculture for further compe- tition at Markham Fair. Mr. Russell Morrison of Beaverton judged both the grain and potato classes in the 4-H show. Greenwood and Kendel were Sunday guests of Mrs. E. Bryan. Plans have been made to hold our Thank Offering Service on Sunday, October 31st at 2.30 p.m. with guest speaker and special musie. The U.C.W. Bazaar will be held in the Church Hall on Wed- nesday, November 17th. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Taylor, Alice and June motored to Cookstown on Sunday and visit- Ally ed Mr. and Mrs. B. Power. 4-H Dairy Calf & Grain Clubs Achievement Day The Sunderland 4-H Dairy Calf Club and the Brock 4-H Calf Clubs held their achieve- ment day at Sunderland Fair, on Wednesday, September 15th. Twelve 4-H Calf Club mem- bers brought out their entries to the show which was judged by Mr. John Deask, R.R. 2, Sea- grave. Mr. Leask also judged the open dairy classes at the fair. The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Special, awarded to the boy or girl obtaining the highest points in showmanship, was won this year by Leonard | Woodward, R.R. 8, Sunderland. Nine members of the Brock 4-H Grain Club brought their seed oats to the fair, with the top sample being exhibited by James Rennie, R.R. 1, Black- water.
