Colourful exhibits by each mem- ber, which included a variety of vegetables, flowers and record books were displayed at the County Achievement Day at Uxbridge, September first. Eighty 4-H Homemaking Club members participated in judg- ing classes of vegetables and answering a garden quiz during the morning programme. Assisting Miss Donna Stewart County Home Economist, with the programme, was Mrs. Linda McLaughlin and Mrs. M. Mont- gomery. Exhibits were presented by Sunderland, Udney, Beaverton and Brooklin. Commenators were Mary Kanters, Dwen Stra- chan and Helen Speedie. "Let's Toss a Salad" was the title of the demonstrations which were presented by Be- thesda, Reach & Prince Albert, while the Zephyr and Altona clubs took the title "Variety in our Vegetable Menu" for their demonstration. The Port Perry Club and the Claremont club presented demonstration on "Serve Vegetables Garden Fresh". Mt. Zion followed with a demonstration called "How to Cook Vegetables." Eighteen members were pre- sented with Certificates of Achievement for having com- pleted two more projects. Mrs. Ellwood Walker, District President of Women's Institute of Ontaric North presented County Honour Certificates & pins for the completion of six projects to Cheryl Smith, Ath- erley; Sandra O'Connor, Udney; Linda Robertson Udney; Gwen Stracken, Udney; Grethe Ped- ersen, Zephyr, Mrs. M. Annis District Pre- sident o fthe Women's Institute of Ontario South presented County Honour Certifcates and pins to Eunice Hammond, Al- tona; June Lewis, Altona; Su- san Crawford, Mt. Zion. Mrs. Annis also presented Barbara Carson, Claremont with her Provincial Honour Certificate and Pin, Each member, leader and as- sistant leader, was presented with a silver 4-H Homemaking Club spoon in recognition of her completion of the project. The fall project for Ontario County 4-H Homemaking Clubs will be "The Supper Club". The Training Schools for the leaders will be held September 27 & 28 in Uxbridge, and October 4 and b in Beaverton. Mrs. Rose Trout, of Willow Beach; spent a couple of days last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Heron. Mrs. Gordon Fisher, of Pick- ering spent the week-end at her home in the village. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ash. ton, sons Ronald and Arnold; Mr .and Mrs. H. Ashton and Mrs. H. Doble were Saturday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Purdy, at Shelburne. The sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Mr, Al bert Burgess in the death of his father, the late Harry Bur- gess who passed away at the Oshawa General Hospital on Saturday. Funeral service was held from the Robinson Chapel, Brooklin on Monday, Oct. 4th. Anniversary services will be held in Burn's Church on Sun- day, Oct. 17th at 11 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. with Reverend Wil- liam Fairley of Kirkfield, as guest speaker. Mrs. Fairley will be soloist at the morning service and Mrs. Wm. G. Reid, of Ashburn R.R. in the evening. Word has been received from S.P. 4 Phillip L. Doble, who is stationed at Bad-Hershfield, Germany, and attending N.C.O. Academy there, has been pro- moted to Sargeant.
