~ PORT PERRY STAR, Thursday, October 21, 1965 SEAGRAVE NEWS This week Seagrave experi- enced something new -- a rob- bery. On Sat. evening Mr. and Mrs. Gord. Sweetman returning home about 11.30 p.m. found their back door had been forced and the house quite thoroughly searched. Apparently their vi- sitors were looking for money as a small amount of cash (about $7.50) was all that was missing. The thief or thieves also hoped to pick up something at the Boe home but failled in their attempt to gain entry. Unit 1 U.C.W. was in charge of the Oct. meeting held on Wed evening. Under leader- ship of Mrs. G. Stone a devo- tional period was presented by Mrs. McNeil. Mrs. Cliff Short and Mrs. Harding, with a duet by the Abraham and Tobin la- dies. Highlight of the evening was the presentation of pie- tures taken in the Br. Isles, Holland, France, Germany, Den- mark and Sweden by Mr. Al- fred Starr during a recent trip in connection with the Depart- ment of Agriculture. Both the pictures and the comment were exceptionally good. It is too bad that more than the 27 la- dies present couldn't have had a chance to enjoy them. The bus- iness period had to be hurried because of the lateness of the hour. Mrs. Stone reported that expenses for the basement re- novation had been high, so the members voted $200. to the Board of Stewards to help out. The ladies also decided to send a Christmas gift of money to our Formosan student. Final plans were made for the Turkey Dinner on Nov. 3 and lunch served. There have been numerous showers here the last week or so, the most enjoyable of which occurred on Friday evening in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Sturman. Mr. Lawrence O. Ni- cholls performed the duties of Master of Ceremonies in his usual smooth and efficient man- ner. Program consisted of piano solos by two of the com- ing generation, Master Calvin Nicholls and Miss Bonnie Short, a round of community singing led a Mrs. Abraham and Mrs. INVEST NOW 82% VICTORIA and GREY TRUST Guaranteed Investments, Interest is payable half yearly or may be left to compound Emmerson Insurance Agency LIMITED 191 Queen St. Port Perry Telephone 985-2421 What's your stand on Mutual Life's low net cost record?
