Grade 13 Term Work Will Play | Greater Part In A Grade 13 student's term work will play a greater part in determininig his final de- partmental standing in 1966 than it did in 1965. This is one of the changes to be made in Grade 13 Depart- mental Examinations of 1966, the Honourable William G. Da- vis, Minister of Education, an- nounced. In 1966, 35 percent of the final departmental standing(in place of the 25 percent of 1965) will be based on the teacher's mark and 65 percent will be based on the examination writ- ten in June. Several of the courses, form- erly having an examination of their own, will be amalgamated into one final departmental ex- amination in June, 1966. Each of the languages including English and Francais, and Bio- logy (formerly Botany and Zoo- logy) are in this bracket. Stu- dents who obtained standing in one part of the language prior Final Standing to 1965 and who did not com- plete the other pat in 1965 may complete their standing only by obtaining standing in the single, two-credit paper in 1966. How- ever, for candidates who, in September, 1965, hold Ontario Grade 13 departmental stand- ing in one of Botany and Zool- ogy, but not in both, a one- credit, two-hour examination, based on the 1964-65 course of study, will be provided in each of Botany and Zoology to com. plete standing in Biology. The examination in each: of the lan- guages, including English and PORT PERRY STAR, Thursday, Nov. 18, 1965-5 Francais, and in Problems, will be three hours in length. The examination in each of the other subjects will be two hours long. No change will take place in the number of Mathematics examinations until June, 1967. At that time, there will be two Grade 13-papers in Mathematics in place of the present three papers in Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry and Statics. As in 1964-65, certain topics have been deleted, for examina- tion purposes, from each of the Grade 13 courses to the extent of approximately three weeks' work, in order to provide op- portunity for study in depth of some topics.
