2 - PORT PERRY STAR, Thursday, Nov. 25th, 1965 Re-Organize Following the resignation of its Chairman, Mr. J. Draper, the local Group Committee of the Boy Scouts held an emergency meeting on Sunday afternoon last, to elect a new active com- mittee. Mr. Jack Jelbert, Pro- vincial Field Executive attend- ed this meeting to discuss and advise the members of the Port Perry Group on its responsibi- lities and duties. Port Perry Boy Scouts organ- ization is an unattached group and therefore does not come under the jurisdiction of the District Counsel. Discussionn took place regarding the advan- tages and disadvantages of Port Perry ever becoming a District organization. If this were to become an actuality in future years, the area would include the Scout Troops, Cubs and Rovers of Blackstock, Scugog #1 and Scugog #2. Mr. Jelbert outlined the funec- tions of a Group Committee. This could number as many as 20, but there must be 'at least 5 active members on the Com- mittee, composed of Chairman; Secretary; Treasurer and one Member at large. Scout Lead- ers are not eligible to serve on a Group Committee but are re- quired to report periodically to the Committee. Likewise, the Ladies' Auxiliary, or "Scout Mothers" are to work with and for the Group Committee. These auxiliaries, Mr. Jelbert pointed Boy Scout Group Committee Elect Officers out, doa tremendous job for local Scouting and the ladies work hard to raise funds for various undertakings. However, should there be any problems arising, the auxiliary could al- ways appeal to its Provincial Executive Field Officer to as- sist in 'solving any situation. The meeting was made aware of pamphlets, literature, P. & R. O. booklets all available to Group Committees, Scout Lead- ers and sub-committee mem- bers. A sub-committee should be formed for finance; Train- ing; Camping and public rela- tions. Mr. Jelbert urged that an auditor be appointed to audit the book of each Scout Leader at the close of every year. Mr. Stan Ploughman and Mr. Gerald Nelson then brought in a slate of suggested nomina- tions to form the Group Com- mittee. These were unanimous- ly voted into office and the list is as follows: Chairman--Mr. Bill Williams Vice-Chairman--Mr, Ed. Mulholland Secretary--Ralph Taylor Treasurer--Don Murray Members--Messrs. Don Parge- ter; Hans Kraupa. Ray Webster; Ben Pickard; Al Dowson; Gerald Nelson; Don Wylie; John Leahy; Ellsworth Kennedy and John Jefford.
