16 - PORT PERRY STAR, Thursday, Dec. 16th, 1965 HILLTOP Another busy week has pass- ed. Examination papers have been processed and returned. Report cards have been distri- buted. A brief holiday, in the form of the Christmas holidays will soon be enjoyed by students and teachers alike. Ontario's Interschool Basket- ball Organization has shifted into high gear. A game be- tween Port Perry's Juniors and Anderson St., Whitby Juniors was held in Whitby on Dec. 7th. It resulted in a defeat for Port Perry (22-7). When interviewed after the game, Port Perry coach Mr. Neigh had these com- ments: "We lost through lack of experience. However, we are bound to improve in the future." Two games were played in Ux- bridge on Friday, Dec. 10th. Port Perry's Intermediates and Seniors made the trip, accomp- anied by cheerleaders. Unfor- tunately, both of our teams were defeated: The Intermedi- ates (36-29) and the Seniors (89-29). On Dec. 18th two games were played in Port Perry. Visiting Anderson St. High brought both its Interme- diate team and its Senior team. The Senior game resulted in a tie (28-28), with a thrilling 4th quarter. Port Perry coach Mr. Dekker said that the score was due to outstanding rebounding, HERALD and the excellent playing of Brent Richardson. Anderson High coach Mr. Musselman, commented on his team's shoot- ing problems. The Intermedi- ate game was won by Port Perry (84-29). Outstanding performances were handed in by John Hayes, Trevor Kendall, and John MacMaster. Curling teams have been chosen. Skips for '66 are Bill Beare, Richard Ryba, Ray Hil- lier, Bryan Reader, Lynne Beare Ralph Ballard, Nancy Crozier, Sheila Kenny, Suzanne Mac- Master, John McDermott, Chris Dowson, Bill Terret, Jim Mac- Master, and Shirley Dowson. Around the school: Top stu- dents in the first tio years of the five-year programme are as follows: Grade Nine--1st Larry Mark, 2nd Joanne Jackson, 3rd Mary Nelson; Grade Ten-- 1st Brian Donelly, 2nd a tie, Bill Taylor and Jim Gerrow. The Coin club, organized by Mr. Me- Nair, now holds weekly meet- ings. Mr. Drew's chess club has held several matches be- tween members. The Literary Society presided over by Grant Williams, has been quite sue- cessful with its sales of Port Perry High Christmas Cards. The Ontario Hydro gave an in- teresting lecture recently, con- cerning nuclear power, to grad- PORT PERRY ROD and GUN The regular monthly meeting of the Port Perry Rod and Gun Club was held on Thursday, Dec. 9th at the home of Larry and Joanne Huston. After a short business meet- ing, we had our Annual Christ- mas Party. I'm pleased to re- port, that there was a good turn out, about 25 in attendance. After the Grab-Bag of gifts were distributed Mrs. Edith Jeffs of Oshawa, showed a number of beautiful colour slides of her recent trips to Arizona, with a most interesting description of each slide. Mr. Burt's Wrestling team has had numer- ous practices over the past weeks. A contingent of Boy Cheerleaders has been formed. They are Rick Ballard, Dale Beare, Lonny Mark, Don Camp- bell and Reg Foster. W,, died, Dec. 9, at the Osh- awa General Hospital. Mr, Spinks, who had been sick for four weeks, was in his 76th year, A son of the late Matthew & Jemima Spinks, the deceased was born at Purple Hill and farmed on the family homestead until 12 years ago when he moved to Oshawa. He was a member of the Church of England at Black- stock and of the Loyal Orange Lodge at Purple Hill, Twice married, Mr. Spinks was predecased by both his wives. He was married to Gertrude Edgerton in 1919, She predecased him in 1944, Im 1946 he was married to Albertha Rhame Wilson, who predeceased him in 1958. Mr. Spinks is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Darcy of Blackstock and Mrs. Margaret Argue of Burketon; three step- sons, Robert and Edgar Wilson of Oshawa and Harold Wilson of Alliston and two nieces, Mrs. Cecil Hyde (Mabel) of Toronto- and Mrs. Thomas Hodge (Mar- ion) of Burketon, The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Dec. 11, at the Mec- Dermott - Panabaker Funeral Home, Port Perry. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery, Blackstock. Canon Ashmore, rector of St. John's Anglican Church, Blackstock, conducted the service. The pallbearers were Cecil Gibson, Henry Wotten, Donald Wilson, Jack Wilson, Roy Stin- son and Fred Pascoe. MRS. EDITH M. B. GREER Mrs. Greer, mother of Osh- awa lawyer John M Greer, QC, died Friday in Toronto. She was the wife of the late John M. Greer, KC and is sur- vived by her son, and a daugh- ter, Mrs. D.
