" Lot) FN "a : IO PRO RA TRAN WO EIR AL The Canadian Save The Children Fund Aids Destitute And Sick In Many Countries Just as there is a dark side to the moon, there is a dark side of the world . . . the side of hunger, cold, sickness, illiteracy, even death, It is here that the CANADIAN Save the Children Fund works to SAVE children. Unfortunately, this dark side of the world is not isolated-- it is everywhere. Not only in jungles, deserts and war-wrack- ed countries, it is in cities, on farm lands even in areas called "tourists' paradises". For instance in the wonder- land of the Caribbean . . . the Caribbean Centre for the Deaf, in Jamaiea, aided by monies supplied by the Canadian Save the Children Fund has develop- ed a proper school, a technical school and an experimental ag- ricultural centre. In Greece and Italy there are "dark sides" too. In the south of Italy the land is mountain- ous and often barren . .. here the CSCF, through the Italian Save the Children Fund, pro- vides counsellors, builds model nurseries and establishes feed- ing stations so that children may live and grow and find freedom from hunger. In Greece the CSCF answered promptly to an emergency to help a number of earthquake- devastated villages and arrang- ed that all children should be given an augmented diet. In one village in particular, Lap- sista, the CSCF with the sup- port of the Redwater Lions Club were able to drill a well which now supplies running water-- the first time in the village's history. "I shall never forget," the" SCF administrator wrote, "wathing the excitement of the children as water gushed from the drilling machine." An urgent appeal from the Youth Aliyah in Isreal sent money toward the purchase of needed equipment for the Child- ren's Centre at Magdiel, where Jewish Children who are up- rooted, destitute or in peril are given a new home and techni- cal training.
