Hill Happy New Year to All Wednesday evening the Glee Club of the High School enter- tained citizens of the village by singing Carols in front of the their homes and later were en- tertained at the home of the Principal, Mr. and Mrs, Paisley. Thursday evening even tho raining, a very good crowd at- tended the service in St. John's Parish Hall, when Carols were sung and a film on The First Christmas was shown, followed by the unloading of fhe tree with gifts for all the children. The United Church was about two-thirds' filled on Friday ev- ening and a very nice Christmas eve service was held. There was a nice attendance in St. John's Church at 10 a.m. Christmas Day when Communi- on was served the newly con- firmed members. On Sunday 11 am. Canon Ashmore, who had resigned as Clergyman of this Parish, due to ill health, preached a fine farewell sermon. Next Sunday service will be held at 11.16 a.m. when Rev. R. C, Rose who re- sides in Port Perry will be in charge. Attendance was not as large as usual Sunday morning in the United Church, Some had- n't their lanes opened of snow and others were celebrating Christmas with friends. How- ever a good service was held. Messrs, Glenn and Ralph Larm- er and Ernest Swain sang a trio "The Birthday of a King". Rev. Romeril preached on "The Light in the Darkness". All were surprised Saturday morning to see a "White Christ- mas" after the rain Friday for most of the night. Saturday was real stormy but most peo- ple got to their destinations and home without too much trouble. Sunday was clear and very cold., and all roads got plowed. Some of the Holiday Visitors were: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright and girls. Mr, & Mrs, Lloyd Wright and family with Mr. and Mrs, Garnet Wright and the other members of fa- mily in Port Perry Friday even- ing in honour of Mrs. Garnet & Lloyd's birthdays. Saturday -- Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Wright, Port Perry, Miss Hazel Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Wright and children, Oshawa and Mr, and Mrs. Lloyd Wright and family were guests of Mr, and Mrs, Walter Wright and girls, Mr. and Mrs, Austin Bea- cock spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. John Mew and family, Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Osmond Wright spent the week-end with their daughters and families, Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Ferguson and Alan spent the week-end with her mother and brother at Norwich, Mr, and Mrs, Ernest Larmer; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Larmer and family; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Larmer and boys were Saturday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Yellowlees and family, Solina. Attendance pins were pre- sented to the various members and Jim Gerrow added to our pleasure with a piano selection. After dinner the children were given gifts and a bag of treats. Mrs. Gordon Hope who for- merly lived on Scugog Island had the misfortune to be in a car accident a couple of weeks ago with her daughter-in-law. Both were hospitalized in Ux- bridge.
