Captain And LALLY AYE 4 Leave Area Captain Lang came to The Salvation Army in Uxbridge as a single Officer January 2nd, 1963; this was the Captain's first appointment in charge. On August 8rd of the same year he was married and brought Mrs. Lang to serve with him, The fall of 1963 brought the commencement of the renova- tion of the old Citadel and in October 1964 the beautifully- renovated building was opened, of which the Soldiery are very proud at this time. In February of 1965 Samuel Frederick came into the home of the captain and his wife and Sam is one of the only children born to Army Officer-parents in the Uxbridge Corps for many, many years, God has honoured the work and many new uniformed Sal- vationists have been added to the Roll. The Sunday School has grown tremendously; the welfare work has been extended; more families have been helped through the aid of family coun- Mrs. F. Lang For Midland selling and necessities than ever before, The work of the Army has been greatly extended to the rural areas attached to this Corps; and the Captain has had the privilege of working with the Police and Fire forces in each area. Captain and Mrs. Lang's new appointment will be to the Northern Ontario Division of The Salvation Army in the town of Midland. Farewell meetings will be held Sunday, January 9th, and a cordial wel- come is extended to all who might wish to attend these ser- vices. Captain Lorraine Luxford will succeed Captain Lang in the command of the Uxbridge Corps. A welcome meeting will be held Thursday, January 13, 1966 to greet the new Officer who will be coming from Dun- das, Ontario, The Captain has been an Officer 8% yrs. and has varied experience in Corps work. She is commended to the Corps and community. Scout Mothers Auxiliary The Scout and Cub Mothers' Auxiliary dispensed with their December meeting as it .inter- fered wth too many Yuletide Parties, The Auxiliary is starting off the 1966 term with a special meeting which wll be held in the Scout Hall, on Monday ev- ening, January 17th. The high- light of the evening will be the demonstration and information presented by Mr. John Visser, Instructor of the St. John's Am- bulance, Whitby, Ontario, re- garding First Aid and Resusci- tation, Several young ladies will take part in the demonstration and Mr, Visser will give actual in- struction on mouth to resuseci- tation. Mr, Visser has given many hours of free instruction at several local first aid courses during the past year or so and has obtained wonderful results with the Girl Guide Classes, In- terested parents will be made very welcome, Members are especially asked to be present. Ladies will please provide a Pot Luck Luncheon for this meet- ing. 8ee coming events for further information. Junior Choir Place Third At Conference Ontario County Junior Farm- ers were again well represented' at the Provincial Junior Farmer Conference, held at the King Edward Sheraton Hotel in Tor- onto, on Saturday, January 8.) There were 1200 Junior Farm- ers from the Province in atten- dance. The Ontario County Junior Farmer Choir, under the direc- | tion of Mrs. Grace Hastings of Port Perry, placed 8rd in a strong competition involving 8 counties. The winning choir was that of Middlesex County. Each choir sang "I know Where I'm Goin", and one selection of its own choosing. Four Ontario County Choir members, Bruce McMillan of Blackwater, Ralph Honey of' Seagrave, Ron King and Ken! Skerratt of Port Perry, placed first in the Male Quartette Competition , Each quartette sang "Click Go The Shears", and one selection of its choice. Barbara Holtby of Port Perry represented Ontario County in' the Public Speaking Competi- tion which included both pre- pared and impromptu speeches. The Ontario County Junior Farmers are to be congratulat- ed on their participation at the Toronto Conference. U.C.W, UNIT #3 » By Mabel Cawker On Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 4th, Unit 3, of the U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Stan, Ploughman with an attendance of 12, The leader Mrs. Merlin Dowson, conducted the meeting, and 'all present were given a warm greeting, Two new mem- bers, and one visitor were wel- comed. The meeting opened with a poem, followed by a Hymn and Prayer. The Scripture was read in unison, Mrs. Stan. Ploughman pre- sented the Missionary study on "Trinidad" and drew a vivid picture of the work being done amongsk the natives there, liv- ing conditions, climate, ete. During; the business portion, Mrs. Wm, Hopkins, offered to help in the nursery during January and different members volunteered to take a turn plac- ing flowers in the church -for the month. Mrs, Dowson advised the members of the shortage of toys and colouring books in the nursery. Anyone having suit- able toys, not in use, were ask- ed to donate same to the nur- sery.
