All re- port worship periods from the Theme of 'New Beginnings" in -u8) OY} Ul 'SPOY}oW SNOJIVA dace Unit, Mrs. Blake Gunter gave a review of the book "Your God is too small", In Dorcas Mrs, Walter Wright dealt with chapters 2 and 8 of "Jesus Christ and the Christian Life", All of the first three units had a quiz on the Obser- ver followed by real interesting and helpful discussions. The Esther unit introduced their study of Brazil with several members reading short items. two members told of a program- me on T.V, that they had seen. This was followed by a contest on Brazil and to top it off, the hunch at that unit was a Bra- zilian Fruit cup. During the business periods at all -- mem- bership fees were paid; plans drafted for the year's work, ete, A very hearty invitation is ex- tended to all members of the eongregation, who have not as yet joined the U.C.W. Take your choice of unit you could attend most conveniently. The Annual Meeting of the W.A, of St. John's Church, Blackstock was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday; Jan. 20th. The Vice-Pres, Mrs, J. A. McArthur was in the 'chair. Following the opening exercises, reports of year's work were read and accepted. A Trust Fund for major repairs has been set up . The Secretary was in- structed to send a hearty vote 'of thanks to Mrs. Ashmore for her help extended to the Church and W.A, during her\sojourn in Blackstock, 'The 19 Execu- tive will be installed'at the con- venience of Rev. A quilting was planned in the Parish Hall for Tuesday, Janu- ary 25th. St. John's Church is the host church for this year's Women's World Day of Prayer to be held in Blackstock on February 25, The expected speaker is Mrs. J. D. Paterson of Toronto. Canon and Mrs, Ashmore joined us for the soéial hour, On Friday evening, January 21st, a happy gathering of St. John's congregation .was held in the Parish Hall. The occa- sion was the honouring of Can- on and Mrs. H. E, Ashmore who have been with us for nearly six years. After open- fng prayers, conducted by the new incumbent, the Rev. R. C. Rose, a programme consisting of musical numbers and read- ings was given. The Sunday School showed their affection for the guests of honour in the presentation by Janice Crawford of a corsage to Mrs. Ashmore and by Diane Hamilton of a boutonaire to the Canon, Mr, George Wolfe, Rector's Warden with a speech of deep appreciation, presented to Can- on and Mrs, Ashmore a gift from the congregation, the W.A. and friends of Cartwright, Canon and Mrs, Ashmore graciously expressed thanks for the gift and paid tribute to those who had helped | . them during their ministry in Blackstock. They invited those present to visit them in their new home at 412 Highland Rd., Peterborough. " Mr. Herb. Hooey reminisced about an Anglican sermon he had heard in the long ago days of Rev. Servies were well attended again Sunday morning. In the United the choir sang a mew hymn for the congregation to learn. Rev. Romeril chose as the subject for a very impres- sive sermon "Deadly Fires". It was Theological Edueca- tional Sunday in the Anglican Church and the Rev, R. C. Rose preached on that theme. Very sorry to report Gerald Brown is very ill with lockjaw in Toronto General Hospital, Glad to hear Mrs, E. Harris in Toronto General, Mr. Roy Turner in Bowmanville and Mr. John Rahm in Port Perry, are all reported making slow but satisfactory progress. Mrs.McDougald, St. Mary's, is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Larmer, Doug and Craig. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Harris, Zephyr, visited Mrs. Albert Wright, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trewin Friday evening, Dr. and Mrs, D. Bilbey, Tor- onto were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wright.
