Keon GH & "i New Warden" Regional Assessment Ontario County's new warden, Wilfrid H .Gould, Last week ad- vocated regional assessment, taxation, planning and develop- ment, In his address to the inaugur- al meeting of County Council, Warden Gould said education, health and welfare should be handled on a county-wide basis. He said fire and police pro- tection could also be on the county level. Mr. Gould, who is reeve of the town of Uxbridge, was -- named county warden on the sixth ballot yesterday, He suggested regional govern- ment will become fact in a few years and said he could see many services being provided on this basis. While this would be more costly, the services would be of a higher standard and more uniform throughout the county. The warden said an executive committee of county council would be needed to supervise re- gional government operations. A county manager would also be a possibility, he said. Mr. Gould said he believed . the provincial government will allow Ontario County to "re- main" but that there will be ehanges in the method of elect- ing the council. "Advocates He said such a change would bring representation much clos- er to population. He foresaw election of county councillors and the warden for three-year periods. Pointing to-the progress made by the county during the past year, Warden Gould said a road need study had been com- pleted. More than 100 miles of township road would become part of the county road system in the next 10 years, He said the establishment of a new home for the aged at Beaverton had been delayed but it is hoped to start construction, in the spring. A second family court was established at Bea- erton which opened this month, A start had been made by a graduate student on the pre- paration of a history of the county, It is not expected to be completed before 1968 or 1969. | F our Seasons Travel(Oshawa) | LIMITED ®¢ YOUR CERTIFIED e TRAVEL CONSULTANTS A complete travel service throughout the world. -- No Service Charge -- 728-6201 (3 lines) OSHAWA 57 King St. East 2 1 0 INVESTMENTS UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED BY VICTORIA AND GREY TRUST PAY 6% FOR S$ INTEREST YEARS INTEREST PAYABLE ¥& YEARLY OR LEFT TO COMPOUND V2 YEARLY authorized by law as an investment for Trust Funds 308 Dumdas Street West WHITBY / | 0) Se Cy Eb A eg fp % 3l Lat 3 11 OR Ont.
