HONEYD By M. Cawker A goodly number attended the March meeting, held in the Parish Hall, under the convener- ship of Mrs. Gordon Shunk and her committee. After the open- ing preliminaries, all were warmly welcomed by the Pres. Mrs, Gord. Robertson. The members responded to the roll call by naming an ac- tivity of interest. Two minutes silence was ob- served in memory of the late Mrs. Norman Lyle who was a life member of Honeydale Branch, Sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. Ploughman announ- ced the Hospital Spring Fair would be held May 28th. Mus, Roy Cornish suggested the "Green Thumb Booth" as a likely project for the W.I. at the Fair and this was agreed upon. Members decided to have as first choice for the Local Lead- ers Training School for the coming year "Vegetables with a Flair" with "Block Printing" as second choice. Miss Alice Dodd and Mus, Fred Warren reported on the recent training school which they attended on "More About Finishes". This is a more ad- vanced course, and emphasizes finishing details, such as collars, bound button holes ete., not covered in last year's course-- "Focus on Finishes". Beginning in April meetings will be held in the Municipal building commencing at 1.30 p.m, The District President Mrs. Mervyn Annis of Brougham, will be our guest at the April meeting. Mrs. J. H. Hardy and Mrs. S. A. Cawker were appointed to look into a Centennial project for the Institute. Mrs. Wm. Moase invited the members to entertain the Senior Citizens at some future date-- sometime in April was chosen as the most convenient time, Programme At the conclusion of the business period Mrs. Gord, Mor- row took the chair for the pro- gramme, and cordially welcomed Mrs. Bruce Snelgrove to the meeting -- and she presented beautiful coloured slides, taken while on a trip across Western Canada last summer, much to the enjoyment of those present, The pictures were very clear and scenic and Mrs. Snelgrove gave an interesting commentary as we travelled on our imagin- ary trip with her. Mrs. Morrow expressed the appreciation of the group for a fine hour of entertainment. The motto for the meeting "Faith can replace a candle in the darkest night", was pre- pared by Mrs, Fred Raines, and read by Mrs. Morrow. Lunch was served by Mrs. G. Shunk and her co-hostesses. Burketon News Mr. and Mrs. Aldeoda Dig- nard, Oshawa with his brother Mr. and Mrs. Delphis Dignard. Mr. and Mrs, David Gatchell, Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. John Ste- phenson, Orono, Mrs, James Gatchell, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Vickery with Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Stephenson. Mr and Mrs, Harry McKee and family, Oshawa, called on Mrs, Raymond Davey. Mrs. Jack Smith spent Fri- day in Lindsay. Mrs Raymond Davey also en- joyed the bus trip to Lindsay on Friday. Several attended the auction sale of Chas. Wilson on Satur- day. U.C.W. for this month to be held in the village March 8th. Congratulations to Mr, and Mrs. Peter Claus on the Birth of their child, Greenbank U.C.W. The March meeting of Green- bank Fidelis U.C.W. was held Wednesday evening, March 2nd at the home of Mrs, G. Beare. Mrs. M. McGee played quiet music on the organ. Mrs. Beare opened the Devotional with a Call to Worship. Hymn #500 was sung. Mrs. O, Gibson read scripture from Eccl, 8rd Chap. Vetses 1 to 13. Mrs. F, Tobin read the prayer. Mrs, Beare then introdcued Mrs. Litt, Mrs. Draper and Mrs. Wallace, all of Port Perry. These ladies intro- duced the Topic "The Problem of Time". The ladies were divi- ded into groups and a very in- formative and interesting dis- cussion followed on the above theme. Everyone present felt this was a most worthwhile meeting. The offering was taken and dedicated. Mrs. M. Parrish took the Study of Trini- dad on the subject of economics. The devotional came to a close with the singing of a Hymn, The President Mrs. H. Baird, took charge of the meeting. Roberta expressed appreciation to Ruby for opening her home and to the group for their De- votional. Mrs, Baird especially thanked the ladies from Port Perry who so ably conducted the topic and discussion. Sec'y and treasurer's reports were given. Mrs. R. Foster reported on cards sent during the month, Mrs. W. Stone read the yearly report about our adopted girl, It was moved and seconded that we continue sponsorship of this girl. Money to be donated to- wards the bale is to be handed to the committee, Mrs. J. Cook or Mrs. R. Cookman. The President read a letter from Uxbridge Hospital Auxi- liary re question bee in March. Plans were discussed to hold a Pot Luck Luncheon and overall meeting in March. The com- mittee reported on plans for a trip to tour the County Court building in Whitby, The Ilun- cheon committee reported on plans for the luncheon in April. It was moved and seconded to have talent tables at the lun- cheon, It was also moved and seconded that the roll call be answered next month with a donation of toilet articles for the bale. The Mizpah Benedic- tion was repeated and a social half hour followed, PORT PERRY STAR, Thurs., March 10th, 1966-13 Remember When? 25 YEARS AGO Thurs., Feb. 6th, 1941 An amateur night sponsor- ed by the "War Savings Cer- tificate Committee will be held February 17th at Port Perry Town Hall. Greenbank -- Mrs, Fleet- wood Beare has been ap- pointed convenor of the wo- men's work committee for the Red Cross. The initial 1941 meeting of the Port Perry Board of Education was held on Tues- day evening. Mr. R. A, Peel was re-elected chairman, Mr, A. M. Lawrence Vice-Chair- man, Mr. R. D. Woon, seec- retary - Treasurer. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Walter Asling on the birth of a son. The Skating Carnival for 1941 will be a Patrotic sett- ing and will be formally op- ened by one of Canada's fam- ous sports commentators, Wes. McKnight.
