HARRIS Mrs. William Heard Harris, a public spirited citizen of Port Perry for more than 60 years, died April 2, at the Port Perry Community Hospital. The de- ceased, who was in her 86th year, had been sick for a month, The former Clara E. Dunk, the deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dunk. A native of Campbell- ford, she had been a resident of Port Perry since her marriage in 1900. Active in many phases of the life of the community, Mrs. Harris was one of the founders of the chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire in Port Perry and ser- ved as its Regent. She also served as Secretary of the Pro- vincial Chapter of the 1.O.D.E, for some years. Mrs. Harris was active in Women's Patriotic work during the First World War and open- ed her home to wounded soldiers who had been returned to Mili tary Hospital in Canada for canvalescence, She was also active in the work of the Port Perry Public Library and was one of those instrumental in its founding and in erecting a new building as a World War I Mem- orial. She twice served as Pre- sident of the Canadian Club in St. Petersburg, Florida.
