Port Perry U.C.W. UNIT #38 By M. Cawker Unit # 3 met at the home of Mrs. S. Cawker for the Easter meeting, Tuesday, Apr. 5th with an attendance of nine. The Unit Leader, Mrs. M. Dowson opened the meeting with Prayer The Worship period was con- ducted by Mrs, G. Thomas, as- sisted by Mrs. S. Ploughman at the piano, A panel on Brazil--our Mis- sionary study -- was presented by four mmbers, namely Mrs. H. Wright, Mrs. L, Beadle, Mrs. G. Thomas and Mrs. S, Caw- ker. A Brazilian Folk song en- titled "Thanks To God", was sung by Mrs, Cawker. During the business portion a report on the recent Bazaar committee meeting was given by Mrs. G. Barthau. After some discussion members decid- ed to have a sewing bee, the latter part of April, at Mrs. S. Ploughman's home, to make aprons to be turned in at the May Unit meeting. Mrs. Bar thau consented to purchase the material, Calls reported--12. Collection $7.50. A Brazilian lunch featuring traditional fruits, home made rolls and coffee -- was served by the committee in charge, The committee for May com- prise: Mrs. H. Honey, Mrs. L, Beadle, Mrs. W. Hopkins and Mrs, H, Emmerson, The place of the meeting to be decided later. We welcomed back our Pre- sident, Mrs. Griffen, who open- ed our afternoon meeting on April 12th with lines from a poem "I believe" followed by prayer in keeping with Easter. Mrs. Griffen spoke words of greeting to all present, making special mention of visitors. Mrs, A. W. Brock paid a beau- tiful tribute to the late Mrs, W. H. Harris, closing with part of Manchester News There was quite a large atten- dance at Church on Sunday morning where Rev, Mr. Teskey received into the church Misses Sally and Barbara Best and Marlene Ives. Also received into membership by transfer were Mrs. Ted Lamb and Mr, and Mrs. Ronald Ginn. The little son of Mr, and Mrs. Ginn was baptized. The service of Holy Communion was observed, Service Sunday, April 24th at 11.15 a.m. You are invited, Mrs. A. Roach and Miss Susan Roach were in Toronto on Sat urday. Mr. E. Mulholland is attend- ing the Legion Convention in Montreal this week. Mrs, Mul- holland is visiting in Montreal and Ottawa for the week. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dunford, and Angela of Lakefield visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. L. Best and family on Sunday. Miss Lauretta Butson, Osh- awa was a dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Franklin on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ginn of Cadmus were guests of their son, Mr, Ronald Gig and family on Sun- day. Mrs. Alex Hewitt and Mr. Harry Cowan, Carnarvon were with Mr. and Mrs. A. Roach on the week-end, Kenneth Torrens, Kingston has been with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. F. Johnston the 31st Chap. of Proverbs, com- mencing at verse 10, which she said attested to the life of Mrs. Harris, Mrs. R. Cornish of Unit 1 conducted the Easter Devotional. A donation was made to our two delegates attending the Hi C Conference in Oshawa. A letter was read by Mrs. S. Cawker in the absence of Mrs. Letcher with regard to our fos- ter child, also a letter from the child himself. It was decided to carry on this project for an- other year, A letter from Dr. McIntyre who is in India was read ac- knowledging the $50.00 sent him. He said half of this do- nation was used to buy eggs for T.B. patients and children, We have been requested to announce that the U.C.W, of Columbus are holding a Bazaar May 4th at 2 p.m. The date of our Bazaar this year is Nov. 19th, the theme be- ing 'Around the World" with booths representing different countries, Mrs, Bickell advised that a bale of new and good used clo- thing, yard goods, thread, wool for knitting, etc. will be going out in May. We were reminded that the candy booth is our project for the Hospital Spring Fair. An interesting report was given by Mrs. S. Cawker whd attended the Bay of Quinte Con- ference as a delegate for Osh- awa Presbyterial, which was held in Harmony United Church Oshawa.
