Mrs. Toombs read a prelude "Out- side the Spectrum", Hymn "Blest be the tie that Binds" was sung, followed by prayer. The meeting followed a Japan- ese theme, this being introduc- ed by a number on the electric organ, played by Annie, name- ly, "A rainy night in Tokio" transposed by Niki, a friend of the Toombs. Following the Bible reading Annie gave an inter- esting reading, "In a Japanese train" a typical journey of an American in Japan. We were shown a number of Japanese treasurers and lovely lanterns made a more realistic setting. Mrs. Croxall chaired the busi- ness meeting and welcomed the twenty-one members and three yisitors present. Final plans were made for the annual bazaar on Wednes- day. Sept. 28th. On Sunday, Sept. 256th at the usual hour of service, the U.C.W. will con- duct the service in the absence of Rev. Mr. Teskey. The trea- surer reported $266.30 received from summer bake sales. At the close of the meeting Annie showed a very fine movie of Japan. The October meeting will be at the home of Mrs: | Marion Cawker. Mrs. Ruth Best assisted the hostess in serving a delicious lunch. 'Miss Edith Brook celebrated her ninety-fourth birthday .on Sunday, Sept. 11th. Her many friends wish her good health to enjoy the years ahead. Miss Eunice Roach returned to Toronto this week where she will enroll for her third year at York University. Mrs. Glen Dunford and daughter Angela of Lakefield are with her parents Mr. and Mrs. L. Best for a few days. In a news item of last week it was stated that Rev. Jack Griffen formerly of Port Perry, now of Ottawa and Mrs. Grif- fen spent a recent week-end with Mr. and Mrs. James Tor- rens in their new home in Mon- treal. "The correction is that Rev. John Griffen and Mrs. Griffen and three children Deanna, Bobby and Timmy are living in Kingston and not in Ottawa as was stated by error. Rev. John Grfifen is the pastor at the St. Andrew's-by-the Lake United Church "in Kingston and also does a radio broadcast each day for half an hour in Kingston, in which questions are asked and Rev, Griffen answers them. See The New UNDERWOOD ~~ Mr. and Mrs. James Torrens & family were members of the St. Andrew's by the Lake Church before moving to Montreal. It is interesting to know that Rev. John Griffen's parents Mr. and Mrs, Sam Griffen of Port Perry are now enjoying a tour of England, Switzerland & many other places overseas. They left on August 28th and will be back on Sept. 21st. Mr. and Mrs. John Kingstone of Claremont have bought the former home of Mrs. Howard Dobson and the late Mr. Dob- son and intend to move in some time this month, 21YRS OLD?
