Mr. Irwin Tripp established a business in Port Perry some thirty-three years ago and has served the public in two differ- ent locations in Port Perry. Back in the year 1934, as a young man he opened a service station on Water Street, where the modern Archer Motor Sales Service Station now stands, and carried on a thriving business for twenty-two years when he sold out to the present owners. Irwin, as he is well-known to all his friends, was married on October 18th, 1939 to the form- er Cora Velma Gerrow, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs, Stanley Gerrow, of Port Perry, and se- cured not only a wife but a de- voted helpmate in his business. Both Mr. & Mrs. Tripp were "born and raised in Reach Town- ship and are known throughout the community. Irwin was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alton Tripp. Upon selling out their busi- ness on Water Street on March 6th, 1956 the Tripp Family moved to their present location at the corner of Union Ave. & 7A Highway, where with the help of their daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Brian Fulford, of Mal- ton) and their son George, now in British Columbia, they have continued to serve the public for the past ten years. ~The Supertest Station a this loca- ion was officially opened on the 16th of September, 1956. Although not being free to take active part in the local organizations' and activities, Mr. and Mrs. Tripp have al- ways shown a keen interest in the welfare of the community and supported various projects (Continued on Page 24) Girls Softhall Team In Uxbridge Tourney The Port Perry Legion Auxi- liary sponsored girls softball team was one among.six other teams competing in a tourna- ment in Uxbridge on Saturday. The local team, although making some fine plays, did not make it to the top in the keen competition. In their last game the girls had to see them- selves defeated by a team from Beaverton for the consolation prize. Sunderland won the champ- ionship by defeatinng Zephyr. Other teams taking part were Scugog Ramettes and teams from* Uxbridge and Ballantrea. Games started at 9 a.m. and | went on all day until 5.30 p.m. A dance was held in the Legion Hall afterwards. Lakeshore Hockey League 10 Teams Play, Two Groups . The Lakeshore Intermediate Hockey League held their pre- geason meeting at the Home- like Inn, Cobourg on Thursday, September 22nd. ~~ Jim. The local team (Tripp's Bull- dozers) were represented at the meeting by Bill Harrison, Chie Carnegie and Don Hurst. This year ten teams were re- presented, three more than last year. Trenton R.C.A.F., Napa- nee and Picton were the new teams. With the addition of the three new teams the league will be split into two groups. The East group will consist of Trenton RCAF, Picton, Na- panee, Port Hope and Cobourg. While the: West group will con- sist of Uxbridge, Sunderland, Little Britain, Keswick and Port Perry. There was a lengthy discus- sion regarding the make-up of (Continued on Page 21) Another Record By Boy Scouts The excellent co-operation of citizens from "Port Perry and surrounding district in putting out their waste paper last Sat- urday, realized a record total in excess of 13 tons for the local Boy Scouts Association. This was the largest single drive ever and brings the total paper received for the year to more than 41 tons an increase of 2% tons over last year. The local Scout orgnization is happy to provide this service to the community five times a year and the generous response from the public is most appre- ciated. The next drive will be , the various courses available, may be seen in an advertise- ment on page 23 in this issue of the Star. .In High 'School Diploma Courses a person may enter in Arts and Science and Business and Commerce. The topics are English, hsitory, chemistry, physics, mathematics, typing, bookkeeping and shorthand. 10 different courses are a- vailable in the Non-Diploma Courses, and one can learn lea- thercraft, cooking, sewing, basic German, conversational French, oil painting, arts and crafts, physical fitness for both men and women, etc. Registration must be made by October 7th, either by mail or phone, and classes begin on October 11th. : : er Harry Peel not be published before the October 6th issue. * * * Talking about new cars, we would like to make an apology to Mr. Sweetman, of "Sweet man's Service Centre, for an | error made in his advertisement in last week's issue of the Star. It stated that the First Show- ing would be held on Friday, Sep. 29th. This should natur- ally have been Thursday, Sept. 29th. Plowmen Meet On Reach Farm Plowmen will meet on the farm of Stewart Diceman and Sons on Wednesday, October ario Plowmen's Association Plowing Match. The farm is located on lot 12, con. 10 in Reach Township, or one mile south of Greenbank, corner of 12 and 47 Highways. Lunch will be served to all plowmen in the field. Fir I i The members of the Port | Perry Fire Department will be holding an Open House during Fire Prevention Week at -the new Fire Hall on Sunday, Oct. 16th, afternoon and evening. During the open house all the equipment will be on display and the local firemen will be on hand to show those attending the operation of the trucks and all the equipment and to explain the fundamentals of same. During the evening films on Il Open House who-are interested. These films will also be shown to the public school children on the Friday previous in the local publie school. The firemen plan to make this open house an annual af- fair and hope that the residents of Port Perry and surrounding district will be interested and take advantage of this oppor- tunity to see and learn more about your fire department and its members.
