Weekly Report During the past week Offi- cers of Whitby Detachment O.P.P, patrolled a total of 17,7560 miles on Provincial Highways, County and Town- ship roads in Ontario County. They investigated 23 Motor Vehicle Accidents which result- ed in 10 persons injured, 1 per- son killed and 12 drivers char- ged. 230 drivers were checked resulting in 71 Warnings and 1564 Charges for various traf- fic offences including faulty equipment, no driver's licence, unsafe lane change, tail gating and speeding. There were 73 General Occur- rences investigated including 6 Thefts, 6 Malicious Damage, 5 Public Mischief, 2 Liquor Of- fences and b4 Miscellaneous Complaints. The "Singing Median" on Hwy. 2 between Whitby and Oshawa is presenting a prob: lem to many local motorists This median is designed to sep lanes in the same manner as a "Public Mischief -- 5 solid white painted line with the added advantdge of a noisy warning when the vehicle comes too close to the centre of the roadway. This median is not designed.. to prevent motorists from making legal left turns across the median into or from private or business properties. This social event took the form of a banquet in the Parish Hall of the Anglican Church. The table was set for some forty people. g The presidents, Mr. and Mrs. at the door and President Roy gave a brief formal welcome when all were assembled. A good deal of improve- ment was achieved. One room of the club house was renovat- tool room was added as well as general repairs, ete. much work was put on the greens and at the end of the season it was levelled off and reseeded, with the hope of even better greens ~~ The ideal summer weather made nearly every tournament and jitney a success and much enthusiasm was engendered with many new members being enrolled for the season. PHONE 725-3564 or 3565 SPECIALS Perry United Obituary JAMES GEORGE PORTER Mr. James George Porter, Blackwater, Ontario, recently retired bank manager of the Port Perry Branch of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, after a severe stroke at his: passed away at the home, Lindsay Memorial Hospital on Oct. 21st, after only three days ! illness. Mr. Porter was employed by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for 41 years, the last seven managing the branch in Port Perry, Previous to coming to Port Perry, Mr. Por- ter was employed three years in Brantford, six years in Del- hi, and 11 years in Parkhill, Ontario. Among his many hobbies, photography took top place, but he also enjoyed travelling, and was an ardent reader of | good books. During his seven years in Port Perry, Mr. Porter found time to take part in various . community organizations, and was an active member of the Lions Club, the Curling Club, Chamber of Commerce, and also held a position on the Arena Board for some time. He was a member of the Port hurch. Left to mourn his passing are - his -wife, Florence Eliza- beth Green, daughters, Barbara Jane (Mrs. J. Pym), Forest, Ont.,, Norma Elizabeth (Mrs. G. Neil) Oshawa, Ont., a bro- ther Charles Porter, St. Cath- arines, Ont., a sister Lenore, (Mrs. Albert Wedrick) Simcoe, Ont.,, his ' mother, Rebecca Hartley, Thorold, Ont., and three grandchildren, Janice and Jeffrey Pym and Jacqueline Neil. Funeral Service: was held on Tuesday, Oct. 25th at MeDer- mott-Panabaker Funeral Home. Ministers officiating were Rev. Alec G. Rice, Port Perry United Church and Rev. E. The following Resolutions were passed: "That the stove and fuel oil contract for the Village of Port Perry to include Municipal Buildings and Arena for the winter of 1966-67 be given to Reesor' Fuel and Lumber as per letter of Sept. 29, 1966. That Irving Boyd, be paid mileage and expenses of $25.00 and that J. J. Gibson be paid expenses $10.00 for attendance of meeting of Association of Police Governing Authorities held in the King . Edward Hotel Wednesday, Oct. _12th, 1966." DEPUTATION--MTr. F. Flet- cher of Prince Albert .appeared before Council and stated that the water main for which he paid for is now over-loaded with consumers to the extent that he is not getting proper pressure and due to the fact that the road is going to be paved, he felt that the Village of Port Perry should now ex- tend a 6" main to take the place of the present 11%" line. RESOLUTION -- "That the clerk-treasurer be authorized | to arrange a meeting of the Port Perry Council and the Council of Reach Township to discuss 'the water problem in Reach Township." Cost of $21.00 monthly." Residents of Ottawa Street, in the Wm. Tripp subdivision are complaining of bad road and no street lights. Council decided to investigate Ottawa Street before stating the number of street lights to be insalled. The Clerk was in- structed to check with the Port Perry Hydro Commission to see if the lights have been ordered to improve the street lighting on Scugog Street. Mr. Wm, Tripp would like street lights and signs put up on Ottawa Street in accord- ment, for which he is willing to pay. The Clerk was instructed to make out a work order for the necessary signs on Ottawa Street. LETTER from the Depart- ment of Municipal Affairs re Ontario Education Capital Aid Program Offer to sell a Deben- ture in the amount of $147,000. "The Offer to Sell a Deben- ture submitted on behalf of the above mentioned borrower has been: received. As soon as possible a deben- ture by-law, prepared by the Branch and examined by the Ontario Municipal Board as to form, will be forwarded to the Treasurer for enactment. 1 note that a by-law has already been enacted covering this exes penditure and a repealing by- law will be sent at the same time as the previously mention- ed by-law.
