You are invited, HILLTOP HERALD Exactly what sort of emotion is created when one combines victory with defeat? For the pessimist, of course, it becomes only defeat while the optimist speaks only of victory. Fur- thermore, in a team sport it means both sides can claim a win while suffering a loss. Well this was the situation at the fairgrounds on Friday, October 28th when our junior football i team met Brock High School i for their second game. Classes were concluded at 2.40 p.m, in order that the entire student ~body 'could come out and sup- port our team. Port got off to a fine start with a touchdown i by Dennis Romeril, while John | Lucyk's defense line held off . the Brock assaults. However | 2 bot Ema EE EL one of these finally sca ded and when added to a safety, point, conceded earlier, gave a win to Brock 7-6. Despite this, Port Perry still won the com- petition 20-8 total score. This allows our junior team to go on to the championship semi-finals against Stouffville, Congratu- lations to the team and coaches on a fine match. True to earlier: predictions, : our senior girls volleyball team did quite well this year winning the GBSSA trophy playing in the tournament on Saturday 29th, held at Brock. -Sesondury School. ig Friday also, saw the con- clusion of this year's magazine campaign. In the afternoon several students could be seen literally up to their elbows in ice cream. They were attempt- ing to scoop out enough to satisfy the appetites of those classes who had 100% partici- pation in this year's campaign. This evidently ~ consisted of over one half of the school as both the cafeteria and lunch- arate sittings. Friday night was the occa- sion of our hallowelen victory dance. This dance is a tradi- tion in the magazine campaign and everyone who sells a sub- scription is admitted free of charge. Many of the prizes were awarded. while our giant mascot bear was won in a draw by Dianne Brown. Dress for this dance was, naturally, cos- tume and the creativity of our students was evident in the great variety of attire. Music 'was provided by the "Inn Crowd" a disc jockey from Ux- bridge who played many new hits along with some old fav- orites; Everyone enjoyed him- "sucess. --Timothy Brunton x room. were--filled for- two sep-| self and the party was a great | y= 3 s -- snp Coa alat PORT PERRY STAR == THURSDAY, NOV. 3, 1966 -- 3 USSR Dignitaries Visit Local Poultry Farm By Jean Jeffery All summer we have watched the huge new building being erected on the property of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wilson, There was much interest and specula- tion as to what it's occupants would be. + $ Well the new occupants have arrived and well set up in business. They are twenty thousand chickens. Ten thous- and are producing' and ten thousand more almost ready to produce. This is one of the newest me- thods used in caring for laying hens to minimize labour and speed up production. Dr. Walker head of the poul- try department in the Agricul- ture College at Guelph Univer sity contacted Mr. Wilson and asked permission to bring a group of visiting U.S.S.R. dig- nitaries to visit the premises. One of the group was the U.SIS.R. Minister of Agricul ture. : One of the Soviet group could speak English as could their representative from the Russian " Embassy at Ottawa who accompanied them, thus the language barrier could be easily - hurdled. The same afternoon another group from the Dominion and Provincial Bureau of Statisties also toured the buildings.
