Heber Down is now Reeve of - Whitby Township -and Gordon Hanna is Deputy Reeve. Mrs. Jean Hollingsworth was the most surprised person in the whole County when they phoned to tell her she had been elected for the School Board. On Sat- urdady Night, she had invited a few friends in, to help cele- brate if she won, and help con- sole her if she lost. A couple of friends jokingly had a cry- ing towel ready, but it "Wasn't necessary to use it. Those that voted for Jean believe she will make a good representative. Under her sense -of humour, lies a very practical business head. Good Luck and Best Wishes to all the winning Candidates. I think we all agree that far- mers are a special breed of peo- ple. The way they have to gamble on the weather for their crops, gamble on their animals not getting sick and dying and gamble on the price market for their margin of profit, they make Las Vegas look like small time. The variety of jobs a- round the farm is endless -- crop panter, herdsman, milker, tractor driver, fence builder, repair man and on and on. It seems ironic that one of the fellows who has done all these chores and more, for a good - many years, should trip over his dog and break a shoulder. Tough -luck, Alf., that's the way it goes. Hope you're feel- ing better soon. They are tearing down one of Brooklin's older homes on Bald- win Street. It belonged to the late Mr. Whiteford. Rumor has it, that a building for a Dairy Bar will be replacing it. Any- one for a milkshake or an ice- cream cone? I wonder if folks are getting a little tired of hearing, read- ing and being effected by all the strikes we are having late- ly? We all want to. see people get a good working wage, but to penalize the public by cut- ting off their various services, somehow, doesn't seem quite Wouldn't --it--be--nice if they could think up a better way of coming to agreements. Perhaps we need someone to spend less time talking about all the bad things the other guys are doing, and more time figuring out a sensible solution to the problems. The fellows that orbit the earth, the test. pilots..of mew... planes, the scientist who dis- covers. new cures are all brave heroes *in their fields. But for pure get up and go and stay- ing power, no one can come near the ordinary everyday folks. Who else but a rock of Gibralter could face the end- less bills, the same everyday work, the kids' complaints, the rise in prices, the shrinking dollar, the extra pressures, the gap in the middle when the ends won't meet and still think he's sitting on top - of the world? But that's the whole secret!--Anyone who can hand- le all these things and still come out on top, deserves to be there. Door prize -- Mrs. J. 1867 U 1967 ' pm--
