Due to the very cold weather several cars refused to work, but fine services were held. In the United at 10 a.m. Rev. P. Romeril spoke on this first Sunday of Lent, on Ser- vice to God and Service to Man, emphasizing the Power of the Great example, The choir sang an Anthem, Praise my Lord the King of Heaven. At 11.15 in St. John's Rev. R. C. Rose conducted the service. Lesson was read by Mr. Law- rence McLaughlin. Rev. W. E, Askew, Toronto, spoke on The Anglican World Mission and its meaning. The projects for Blackstock Parish: are: -- Old Crow Mission in the Yukon; St. John's House, Toronto; and Dr. Robin Bolton in Africa. The complete executive of the U.C.W. had a very pleasant and informative time in the C. E. Centre Wednesday, when they discussed the duties of each officer. Ash Wednesday service was held in St. John's Church Wed- nesday evening. Rev. R. C. Rose spoke briefly on Lent, Holy Communion was administered. At the World Day of Prayer service held in the United Church Friday. Members from all the churches of the Town: ship took parts. Mrs. Litt, Port Perry gave a very interesting and impressive address on the theme "And of His Kingdom there shall be no end". Mrs. Harold Kyte sang--The Centen- nial Hymn. As a cooking demonstration, they made toast topped by an 'egg with cheese sauce. For dessert they made apple dumplings. Cawker The Louise Patterson Handi- craft Guild celebrated the Sec- ond: Anniversary when the members met at the home of Mrs. John Hamilton, Blackstock Ontario. Mrs. Patterson presided and opened with all repeating the Lord's Prayer in unison. All present were warmly welcomed. Dues were paid for the year when the roll was called. A new name was added to our membership. We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Stan Plough: man into the Guild. Regular business was trans- acted -- some handicrafts were displayed. A special feature of the meeting was the showing of local pictures -- the first Anni- versary party, and the three Rug & Art Exhibitions, etc. Very sorry to hear of the ill- ness of one of our members, Mrs. Baker of Sunderland. We wish her a speedy recovery. The March meeting on the second Wednesday afternoon avill be held at Mrs. Ben Smith's home at Prince Albert. The social committee comprise: Mrs. John Hamilton & Mrs. Walter Wright of Blackstock.
