The Saunders will be missed as in their quiet way they were fine citizens and neighbours. friends are planning a gift of remembrance for them. What looked like the whole Scott clan were assembled at the family home on Sunday to wish father Roy a good trip overseas. Their | ports of Portugal, We were rather surprised to be told that in all probability Roy will be in France before Mr. and Mrs. H. Zolitz, who left on March 20th, but don't ex- pect to finally disembark until April 6th. This couple are hav- ing a second honeymoon cruise with stops of various lengths at Spain and Mediterranean islands and will finally leave ship in Italy. They took their new car with them and will motor to Germany. Guests were couples from the district, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Wanamakey, of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Ian Fraser of Toronto and Mr, & Mrs. Lloyd and sons Nephews Bill and Kenny Lloyd had spent the holidays with the Wanamakers and Stones, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wanamaker accompanied Mr. Earl Martyn and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Martyn to Waterloo for a visit with Bruce Martyn. Mrs. Geo. Murphy and Miss Marie Anderson of Lindsay were welcome guests at church Sunday morning and later at the Glenn Wanamaker home, Mr. and Mrs. Don Keeler of Oshawa also called there in the evening. This week Mrs. C. Vale of Woodville and Mrs. S. MacFar- lane, president and vice-presi dent of Lindsay . Presbyterial W.M.S. of the Presbyterian church, leave by bus for. Sault Ste. Marie to attend a special W.M.S. conference. Miss Lorna Dure of Toronto is staying a few days at the MacFarlane home. Mr. Bill Barr took off again on Wednesday for 10 days of recreation and business. Meanwhile Mrs. Barr and the family paid a visit to Bill's par- ents Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Barr in Toronto. So much for the Barrs--Now the Carrs. Cathy and Karen Carr spent their holidays with grandpa and grandma Smith in Woodville. During the week Mr. and Mrs. Carr had a visit from her sister Miss Shirley Smith and also had Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Smith of Woodville as Sunday dinner guests. Mrs. Neil McMillan has had to return for another 10-day stay in Port Perry hospital suf- féring from plebitis in her arm. Son Gordie is still playing hoc- key, as Little Britain team won the play-off series from Trenton so qualifies to seet Port Elgin the end of this week. On Wedneday Mr. Geo. Shaw of Sutton visited with Mr. and Mrs. J. MacTaggart and on Thursday Mrs. MacTaggart and her sister Mrs. Pearl Thompson called on relatives in Kirkfield. i. = We see that Mr. and Mrs. C. Hallett .and Dale have arrived home from Florida looking fit and happy. We missed the Bruces and Mrs. Tait more this 4veek at church when barely half as many people attended as at | Easter. S.S. was- some better with an attendance of 82. The young fry had their. turn this week with Gordie McMillan and Sylvia Wanamaker on , duty. Since the Burketon Garage ceased to sell gasoline two weeks ago the only service sta- tion in the village is operated by Mrs. Raymond Davey at the foot of the hill, like neighbour- ing villages, Blackstock and En- niskillen. Burketon now has '| only one gasoline filling station. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Green of Bowmanville, who moved to the store vacated by Mr. & Mrs. A. E.-Ribey have now opened the store to sell groceries, etc. A new sign "Diana's Variety" | graces_the_ front of the Store. Congratulations to them and best wishes for success in the future are extended them. A. E. Ribey had sold off the stock in their store seven years ago to have semi retirement life. This will be three stores in the village. Mr. Harry Grace entered hos- pital on Tuesday of last week for the third time since his ac- cident more than two years ago when his tractor started acci- dentally and ran over him, We are glad his stay in hospital was only for a short time. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Strong assisted deilvering the mail on Routes 2 and 3 while the mail- | man was absent. Mr. and Mrs, David Gatchell, Oshawa were Easter Sunday guests of Mr, and Mrs. A. C. Stephenson and family.
