Roads Bill were presented for payment in a- mount of $3,050.34 and approv- ed. A tentative Roads expendi- ture By-Law was read quoting following expenditures as sug- gested by the Ontario Depart. ment of Highways as a normal roads appropriation: For Roads --$33,000; for Bridges & Cul- verts--$5.000; for New Machin- ery--=$3,000; Superintendence & Overhead--$13,000. Grand to- tal--$54,000.00- The Gross expenditure of $54.000, would be a Net Cost of $20,600 or a reduction of $2,800. and would leave no pro- vision for oil surfacing. After considerable discussion, Council decided to set aside several other projects, and the sugested schedule of expendi- ture was incorporated into the normal roads program By-Law. The By-Law was read three times and passed, signed, sealed and numbered #1142. At this time the meeting was adjourned until 7.00 p.m. Re- convening Council met the re- presentatives of the Fire Dept. who asked how their budget of $3,254. had been considered and if an additional $1,000. might be ) » 4 EE -------- MN added to it for 2 way radio. Council at the last meeting had tentatively approved a $3.00 levy against the 1410 Assess- ments which would raise $4,230. or a few dollars less than re- quested. The Firemen seemed to be satisfied. The subject of Roads Pro- gram 1967 was again brought up for final decision. It was felt by Council members that the time had come that Roads and General Accounts can no longer jects just to allow other depart- ments to continue heavy tax levying; consequently some of the road oiling program which was curtailed last year should definately be carried out this year. Even then the amount of $10,000 estimated to do this job was cut back to $9,000. for a total Gross Roads expenditure of $63.000 or an approx. net cost of $24,500 or $1,100 more than last year 1966. A motion was passed that the Roads work program include the cost of a well and toilet facilities at the Township Garage, and another motion that a Supplementary By-Law to spend the additional $9.000 for Oiling be drawn up. Harris and Ralph Murray of Treelands Ltd. and Ontario Lands Sale and Investment res- pectively discussed with Coun- cil the formers plans of subdi- vision and sale of 5 acre lots. The setting this year was in keeping with our Canadian Culture and featured an outdoor scene and of course Canada's first people the Ind- dian; This display takes con- siderable work and thought and we were very happy to have so many there to admire it. The highlight of the display was the tee pee, camp-fire and the In- dian Maiden dressed in full costume. : The programme consisted of a return engagement of "The Country Four" from Orono. This quarete is very entertain- ing and well worth hearing. The lads sing all types of songs and this year added a duet or two. We were very pleased to have our young folk taking part also. as Louise & Ronald Hope fav- oured with piano solos. We have a budding young quartet called "The Redman Four" and we noticed a very proud grand- mother at the piano. The four are Tayna Redman, Thomas Reman. John &. David Redman. In order to stretch ourselves we had Community Singing led by Joan Aldred and Bonnie Bell supplied the piano music. Our very capable Chair Lady, Betty Reese gave out the door prizes and kept us informed as to what we were having next. Some of the Group numbers dressed in Centennial dresses and believe me if the ladies of yester years were as beautiful it must have been great then. We would like to thank every- one who helped in any way to make this evening so enjoyable and only hope you will return next year when----we-will-have .---- something else you will enjoy.
